Alex thought all day about the way Addison had been acting. He had been working with her for a while, he could tell almost immediately by her body language that something was really off. And then by how quick she had shut down their conversation, he knew she wasnt herself. So he wanted to find out why.

Later that day, the two were bumped into each other in the cafeteria. Addison asked Karev if h would like to join her for lunch. He agreed, and the two sat.

"listen, Addie, I know something is wrong. i just wanted to let you know that you can tell me anything.", Alex says.

Addison looks up, "thanks. 'Preciate it"

The two go back to eating their lunch before having to get back to work. It was silent in their 'bubble' for a moment.

Out of nowhere, "im pregnant", comes popping out of Addison's mouth, catching Alex completely off guard. "6 weeks. No one knows. so keep it to yourself"

"Okay. Congrats... i think. Does Derek know?", Alex asks.

"No. Im honestly not sure how to tell him. I just found out today anyway."

"Well, you should do it sooner than later. You're his wife, just say it. Im sure he'll be excited"

"Yeah" Addison looks down for a second. "i gotta go. Thanks", she says hurrying away from the conversation that she couldnt believe she had started. How was she supposed to tell him it wasnt Derek's baby? She felt ashamed. Like it would be impossible to put her horrible attack behind her now. Her and Derek wanted a baby for so long, but never succeeded. Now she was carrying a baby that was conceived out of hate.

But as the amazing Addison Montgomery-Shepherd does well, she picked herself up and continued along with her day, wearing her incredible smile and making everything seem perfect. Even though she knew it wasnt.

The time came for her to head home. She asked Derek if he would be home around the same time as her, because there was something important they needed to talk about.

"i'll be home in a few hours. i have a couple consults, then i have rounds. Is everything okay?", Derek asks.

"Uh, yeah. Everything is fine, i guess. it can wait a few hours" Addison answers reaching in to kiss her husband. "I'll see you in a bit."

Amelia spots her sister walking towards the front door. "you ready to go?", She asks.

Addison nods, and they walk to the car. "How was your first day back?" Amy asks.

"it was okay", Addison responds.

"Just okay? You've been gone for a month and half and you had just an 'okay' day?"

"Yeah", Addison says quietly, looking out of the passenger side window.

It was a quiet ride home. Looks like Amelia was going to have to break the silence.

"You okay, Addie? Were you not ready to come back yet?"

"its not that. Just thinking a lot today. I'm okay, I promise"

The ladies arrived home and Addison immediately laid on the couch and passed out. The first time she had slept sound in weeks. She was too exhausted to not do otherwise. Derek walked in about 2 hours later, looking at his sleeping wife, smiling slightly. He didnt want her to have to sleep on the couch, but he hated risking freaking her out trying to wake her. It may have been over a month, but Addison was still very fragile. So, Derek just took her heels off of her and covered her with a blanket. "We can talk in the morning", he thought, Kissing her on her forehead.

Amelia was sitting on the counter top, waiting to greet her brother after their long day.

"Do you think it was too soon for her to go back to work?", Amelia asked Derek.

"i dont know. Why, did something happen?", Derek asked, concerned.

"No. Well im not sure. She just seemed a little upset on our way home. It was a silent ride. Who knows, maybe she was just tired", Amelia said. "im going to bed now, goodnight"

"Goodnight", Derek hugs his sister. "Thanks for helping look after her. Im proud of the person you've grown to be"

The two went their separate ways to their bedrooms. Where Derek laid awake most of the night thinking of his wife. How beautiful she is, how bad he pitied her but tried not to show it for her own sake.

Little did he know that the news he would be receiving the next morning would be harder to take in than anything.
