You don't have work tonight so you stay home alone and enjoy the time that you have to yourself. Laying your backpack on your bedroom floor, you take out the night's homework and start with Government. You work on your homework for a good two hours, making sure that you give everything your best effort before retiring for the night. You walk downstairs to shut off all of the lights but through your dining room window, you can see two people walking down the street. You squint your eyes to make out who they are but they're too far away and it's too dark outside. You sit there and watch them. It sounds creepy but you're just curious to know who is walking the streets at this time of night. Suddenly, the street light illuminates them and you can see that it's Barb and Nancy. You completely forgot that the party is tonight. You groan and walk away from the window. Your dressed in your pajamas which consists of knee length sweat pants and a Ted Nugent tour t-shirt.
You got the shirt when you were much younger. It was 1978. Both you and Steve were taken to your first concert by your aunt. She is such an awesome person but she lives so far away, you never get to see her. During that time, she was up for a visit, heard about the concert, and took you. The funny part of the story is that you saw two older boys, one, you heard, was named Fez and had really shiny black hair with tight fitting pants. The other man had crazy curly hair, sunglasses at night, and one of his own band T-shirts on. They were both selling Ted Nugent T-shirts but instead of it saying Ted, it said Tad. You remember this moment so well. You and Steve talked about it for weeks.
You shut all of the downstairs lights off and head up into your room. You shut the light off and turn on your fan. The humming of the noise is nice and soothes you. You crawl into your bed and rest your head against the pillow. Finally, when you're at peace and comfortable, you hear it. The music coming from Steve's house. One of your windows can see right to the back of Steve's house where his giant pool is and scattered chairs. You can clearly here Raise A Little Hell by Trooper through your window. You walk over to the window facing Steve's house and open it up.
All of a sudden, you see Carol, Tommy, Barb, and Nancy walk out to the back. You keep the window open and sit on your bed. You can just barely hear their conversations. You jump up from where you lay at the sound of a girl's screaming. you look out the window and can see that Tommy has his hands wrapped around Carol's waste and he is holding her up to throw her in the water. She screams a few more times and he puts her down as he laughs at her reaction. Barb and Nancy are both sitting on chairs near the pool and you see Steve come from out of the house. You see him take something from his mouth and press it into the bottom of the can he is holding. You wouldn't be surprised if it was alcohol that he's drinking. You roll your eyes as you watch him shotgun the beer. You go back to your place on the bed. "Is that supposed to impress me?" You hear Nancy say.
"You're not?" Steve asks jokingly. He is way too cocky for his own good. Somehow, Nancy finds it charming.
"You're a cliché, you do realize that?" Nancy points out the obvious.
"You are a cliché," good comeback, Steve, You think to yourself. "What with your-your grades and your band practice."
"So not in band," Nancy laughs.
"Okay party girl, why don't you just, uh, show us how it's done, then?" Steve says and there's a moment of silence. you get up from your bed and go back over to your window to see what's up. You see Nancy with a drink in her hand and an object in the other. You realize what she's about to do and you shut the window, not caring about what else they say. You found out that their conversations are, in fact, extremely monotonous. You go back to your bed but this time, you plop a pillow over your head and go to sleep. Even with the pillow, the chants for Nancy to chug still break through your closed window.
