Later that day, you sit in the library for your free period and dive into some school work. You're sitting on the floor in a secluded part of the library in between two bookshelves with your back against the wall. Your spine feels weird against the wall and so you shove your jacket behind you. Going back to your English homework, you slump down and begin to feel drowsy. Your arms fall limp at your sides and onto the ground and you fall asleep.
You're woken up by a familiar face. You can still feel where the hand was that shook your shoulder. You rub your eyes and quickly look down at your watch. Thank god, you think. You were only asleep for ten minutes. The boy in front of you laughs a little but it's not the laugh that you want to hear. Now more focused, you see that Connor is crouched down next to you. He rubs his hand up and down your arm and then reaches for your hand. The uneasiness in your stomach is not from any kind of butterfly. It's not a good feeling. You feel strange, awkward more like. Slowly, you pull your hand out of his so as not to her his feelings. Regardless, he frowns and you brush it off by gathering your books together. You shove them back into their places on the shelves and go to the doors to leave. Connor follows right behind you in silence. You don't say a word to him, in fact, you have no idea what to say.
Finally, he grabs your arm and swings you back around to him. Without being able to catch yourself, Connor captivates you in his arms. He crashes his lips onto yours in a forceful manner. Your eyes stay open as he does this and all it takes is one second for you to realize that you don't love Connor anymore. You move your arms up to his chest and try to push away from him. He takes this as you wanting to go deeper into the kiss. You turn your head and break your lips away from his long enough to breathe out, "Stop." You continue to struggle until you feel a pair of arms wrap around your shoulders and pull you away from Connor. You drop down, out of breath. You sit their light headed and watch as Steve pushes Connor away. Here comes Steve to the rescue, once again. He makes it hard for a person to hate him.
"Hey, man, I heard her say it. I heard her say no and so you stop, asshole!" Steve yells at Connor and pushes him more forcefully. This makes Connor push back. All of a sudden, their wrestling on the ground. Connor is on top of Steve. You sit there, astonished by how this took a turn. You look over to where you hear the footsteps coming from. Two police officers and the principle come jogging over to break up the fight. The taller police officer grabs under Connors arms and pulls him back. Steve picks himself up and backs up a couple steps from the officer who was going to grab him.
"You better mind your own business, Harrington," Connor threatens. "You were the one who left her, remember? What? Now you want her back?" He prods Steve with his words. Steve has a murderous look on his face. He glares at Connor. "She's mine!"
"Excuse me?" You chime in. "I do not belong to you! And Steve, Steve can handle himself but let me tell you, you have no idea why Steve left me. He has nothing to do with us. While we're on the topic, we're done. Thanks for a great time but I don't date dick heads." With that, you begin to walk away but one of the police officers calls your name. You look back at them while your heart sinks into your stomach.
"(Y/N), we have a few questions to ask you and..." He trails off and looks over at Steve. "Steven, why don't you join us? We have to ask you a few questions as well." The police officers begin to walk down the hallway. You make eye contact with Steve and raise an eyebrow. He shrugs and you begin to walk. Connor stays behind and gets escorted to the principles office.
You and Steve keep quite a distance behind the officers and you walk side by side. Your lips are swollen from how rough Connor was. You look over to Steve and nudge him with your elbow. "Thanks, again," you say and laugh a little at the thought that that wasn't the first time that Steve has had to get a guy to stop kissing you.
He looks over at you and gives you one of his goofy grins. "Like I was going to walk by and let you get attacked." He pauses. "So you two are over, huh?" He looks straight ahead.
"Definitely.," You assure him. He smiles and this makes you blush.
"Good, you're too good for him anyways," he continues to smile.
The two of you are lead into the empty cafeteria. The officers sit down and you two sit across from them. "You are probably wondering why you're in here." The tall police officer eyes the two of you. You nod. "Well, I'll cut to the chase then. You two were one of the last people to see Barbara Holland before she went missing."
