Matchmaking Disaster (4)

Class went by smoothly. My history teacher was on leave, so we had a vacant time. The thing about our class—the noisiness of it. Everyone was so talkative. Our classroom almost burst out. Next was algebra. I loved math, don't get me wrong, but our teacher was so old. He spoke too slowly and he's making the class sleepy. The other subjects were okay.

             Then, there was English.

I was so glad that I was not late. But when Ms. Lani arrived, she said when she spotted me, "Sapphire, please go to the gym now. All representatives should be there." I gaped at her for a moment.

"Excuse me? But I still have—"

"You are excused. Don't worry," she said, cutting me off. "Off you go now."

So now, here I was in the gym with the all of the representatives. Every courses in the university had a representative and I was quite intimated by some of the upper classmen.

I tsked. I didn't even know anyone here. I was standing in a crowded room but no one to speak to. By the thought of this, I remembered the song The Story of us by Taylor Swift.

I continued to roam my eyes. Then someone wrapped an arm around my waist. I yelped out a squeak. I turned around to see who it was.

             And it's just Harry.

"You scared me." I said. "I thought it was someone I didn't know." I gave his shoulder a punch, but not too hard.

He chuckled. "Sorry." Then he leaned forward to kiss me. But before his lips pressed onto mine, I turned to the side, causing his lips to meet my cheeks. "What's wrong?" he asked. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"I remember I haven't forgiven you completely. And it's quite odd to be this close to you again," I said, looking down as I bit my lower lip. "And also, there are other students here."

He turned to the side and didn't even bother say anything. I was about to say something again but he left. Just like that.

             I was all alone again.

"Hello students," a voice from the stage erupted. I tried to look who it was but there were so many heads blocking my sight. I tiptoed but that caused me to fall onto someone's chest.

"I'm sorry." I looked up to see who it was. Didn't I ever learn? I looked down out of embarrassment. It's Zac who was smirking down at me.

I inched myself away without taking another look at him. I was so embarrassed. This was the second time that I rammed into him.

"Hey." He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and squeezed tightly. "Good to see you here," he said, shaking me a little.

I knew that my cheeks were red by now. I shoved his arm away which only caused him to chuckle a little bit loud.

"I didn't know that you'll be here." What's that supposed to mean? "Well, you know, only pretty girls were chosen to be a representative." He glanced at me, then he smirked. Didn't he know anything than to just smirk?

I couldn't help but scowl at him. "I beg your pardon? Are you saying that I'm not pretty enough to be here?" I groaned. That just caused him to chuckle more. I didn't wait to what he's going to say next. I walked away from him and through the crowds of students.

I found myself at the front of the crowd. But one person caught my attention—Britney Neilson—the girl who flirted with Harry. I glared at her. I hated how she dressed herself. I hated everything about her.

When she noticed that I was staring at her boots, she walked towards me and said, "Hi Sapphire. You like what I'm wearing?" This girl was a real idiot. I just wanted to strangle her for what she did. Obviously, she didn't even know that I was Harry's girlfriend. Or to Harry's thoughts, I was his current girlfriend again.

"I don't like what you're wearing." I stared deep in her eyes, like I was looking inside her soul. "Actually, I hate it." I bellowed, crossing my arms over my chest.

She took one step back. "Why you're like that? I thought you were nice?" she snapped, her voice was a little crack.

I took a step forward so our faces were only a few inches away. "Did you know that Harry has a girlfriend? Or you're just stupid?" I smirked at her evilly. She gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.

             "You were Harry's girlfriend?"

"Correction. I'm still Harry's girlfriend." That caused her to fall back onto her knees. Wow! She's one hell of an actress. "And I hope you keep your hands to yourself."

I turned away from her and gave my attention back to the speaker in front. But before I even noticed, I was being dragged down onto the floor. Britney was on top of me and slapping my face left and right.

The crowd went wild. I could hear murmurs but too blurry for me to understand them. Then someone helped me to get up and hid me behind his back.

"Britney Neilson, to the office," the person in the stage shouted over the microphone. "Please be aware that this is not a place for fighting. You can all go now. Be back tomorrow for the rehearsal, eight o'clock in the morning." Then she left with Britney.

Zac was at his earnest look. I couldn't help but wonder what it's supposed to mean. "Are you okay?" he asked, removing a strain of hair on my face.

I felt tears well up. I didn't want to cry in front of him. I didn't want to cry in front of any other students. "Thank you," was all I could say, still not facing him.

I saw the students started walking their way out of the gym. But it seemed like my feet was glued onto the ground I was standing at.

Without me noticing it, Zac pulled me to his chest, and that made my tears to fall. I was sobbing so hard onto his chest. He wrapped his arm around my waist and I couldn't help but cry harder. I didn't know what I was supposed to do if Zac wasn't there.

I thought I was strong enough to face Britney. I thought I could beat her even just by throwing bad words at her. But I guess, I thought wrong.

Then someone pulled me from Zac's grasp. I turned to look at the person and it's Harry, who was glaring at Zac. "Thanks for comforting my girlfriend," he said, putting an emphasis on the last part. We left Zac without any word.
