Saturday 25th November ~ 4:28pm
Jack's POV:
I breathed.
Darkness threatened to overtake my senses, yet as it started to clear my chest began to throb. An imaginary jackhammer pounded at my skull.
Still, I breathed.
Images flashed through my mind, distorted and muddled like jigsaw pieces crammed into the wrong spaces. They were too loud in amongst the darkness.
Deafening.
Groggy, I let a whimper escape my parted lips. There was a shuffle of movement.
A short silence.
Then a louder voice reverberated throughout my eardrums, rattling my skull.
"I know it hurts Sean, just... try and hold still."
His voice registered somewhere in the back of my mind, like a song I hadn't listened to in awhile, yet I couldn't make sense of it. Everything was so dark.
So dark.
My grip on consciousness slipped when the pain spiked.
"Mmn-!"
"Sorry, sorry!"
My limbs were too heavy to shift, and it was this that ignited the panic back to life. My body was lead. Two strong hands lifted my lifeless form, and my eyelids flickered.
I was powerless to whoever may have been carrying me.
The fear that it was Anti was all too real for me.
My attempts to talk came out as gibberish, light spilling into my vision and effective in blinding me. A displeased groan escaped me.
"Hold on-"
My body was jostled about, whoever held me ascended up a staircase that seemed to creak with every step. My unfocused vision only allowed me to see colours - blurred oranges and creams and browns doing nothing to quell the confusion.
I had to do something.
"I...I... c-gh-!"
I broke out in a hacking fit that set my chest alight with agony.
At some point during this time we must've reached the top of the stairs and entered a room, because as my eyes adjusted that's where I now found myself. Yet in all my delirium I couldn't place exactly where I had found myself.
"There-"
I was eased down with gentle movements, soft covers draped over my beaten and broken body. A bolt of pain in my chest made me stifle a weak cry.
Still, the warmth was a relief I welcomed.
"Hey..." The voice called, drawing my limited attention. I blinked. "Can you hear me?"
My vision deteriorated, and I fought the urge to pass out again. Through my haze his outline was apparent.
The world was unknown and terrifying yet I knew him.
"Jack?"
Even at its loudest my voice had been reduced to a hoarse whisper.
"M...Mark...."
My vision cleared again, two chocolate brown eyes meeting my gaze. Mark's lips curled into a weak smile. "Don't ever - ever - scare me like that again, Sean." He scolded, voice cracking as he wiped his face.
My eyelids attempted to slip closed again.
"Mark... I-It... it hurts..." I whined, my head lolling to the side as I tried to move. The grip I had on reality was starting to loosen.
Mark took a seat on the edge of the bed I was lain in. Throughout everything his gaze remained fixed on me. "I know, it's gonna be okay, I'm right here."
My mind cried out for rest yet I was petrified of losing myself again.
Of being alone again.
"It's pretty hard to miss ya..." I mumbled.
The syllables that left me didn't feel as though they made sense.
My eyelids fluttered closed.
Mark let out a forced laugh, yet I had to strain myself to hear it. "Hey, be grateful I graced you with my presence." He defended.
Everything was so far away.
Too far away.
"Jack, Jack stay with me." Mark insisted, his concern not quite reaching me. I was fading. "Jack?!"
I couldn't hold on any longer but desperation made me try.
"Mark..."
I drifted down into the blackness.
