2: The province
Quezon province did hold a lot of memories for me. The good and the bad ones.
Here, I met a creature who I instantly fell in-love with because of a love potion. Although I knew I was enchanted, I could not help my feelings and just enjoyed the love I had with him.
Briefly.
It was a very brief love story. It was tragic. It was hateful.
In this province, my dear cousin died. Geddy Karait was the son of the late Jerry Karait, a detective of NBI who investigated about a dangerous drug syndicate. He died without finding out the truth.
Years after his death, his son, Geddy, came to this province with a mission to find his father's killers, but like father like son, because he died without knowing the truth as well.
In honor of them both, I investigated together with Araki, and found out that the syndicate was among the police officers. Araki killed their leader, while the rest were imprisoned.
In this province, I learned about the existence of non-human creatures, and their country called the "Ilalim." It was dying when I get there, but thanks to me and Araki's manipulation of me, we found their artificial sun that restored their country's source of energy.
It was all thanks to Araki and his manipulation of me.
That bastard.
A priest named Father Quincy Esperanza gave me an antidote out of his enchantment, so now, I do not feel involuntary love. I feel hatred and betrayal instead.
I stepped out of the police car handed to me by NBI. It is different from normal police cars so it really catches attention from the police officers inside the station.
SPO2 Felix Nostrad came out with a cup of cocoa in hand. I remember him as one of those supportive but rowdy officers who apparently became an officer for the kicks. He's decent, nonetheless.
"Hey, look who's here. It's the genius detective." He called out-loud that most certainly gained the attention of half the people inside the station.
Another police officer came out of the station whose steps are powerful and snappy, yet light. It's no other than SPO4 Luisa Fina, the current chief of this station. She has grown more beautiful and strong. A year ago I'm head over heels with this lady until the enchantment clouded my feelings to steer to a certain creature. Now that the enchantment's gone, I still don't understand why my romantic feeling hasn't come back yet. What I have now is complete admiration and respect. Officer Luisa Fina is an admirable chief indeed.
"What brought you here, officer? I did not receive documents of reassignment." she smiled.
"Oh, I won't be reassigned. I'm still in NBI but I'm taking a break here. Also, I'm getting Geddy's stuff." I explained.
With the mention of Geddy's name, the air became silent.
Good thing officer Frank knows no drama. He came in between us and swerved the conversation naturally.
"Haha, Hansel s'not stutterin' anymore. I remember when you would totally go awkward when officer Fina comes. Haha."
Goddamit, Frank.
"Yeah." officer Fina laughs with him. "He was really so cute when he does that. Boys really get cute when they have crushes."
Office Fina's remark completely got my attention. "You knew I had crush on you?"
"Yeah, Officer Juno. It was way too obvious." and she laughed again.
I covered my face in embarrassment, yet, I know this should not be taken seriously. We all have an idea that whatever feelings I had, it has faded.
"Whatever you bullies. I'm just here to see the station. Bye." I began walking towards the car.
But before I open the car door, I heard Luisa saying, "I remember having a crush on you, too."
I looked back at her. She smiled to me, a professional one. And so I smiled at her, a warm one. And if I drive away with this Sedan without looking back, it means whatever that was, it's not important anymore.
I drove away from them as they wave me goodbye. Those were all memories now. For the meantime, I have a job to do, and it's important that no one knows about this.
Why? Because the trees are their ears. The trees are their surveillance. I gotta be careful what to talk about while I'm here.
Quezon Province. My land of bitterness.
I stopped in front of the rustic casa-style house just beside the woods. It was the house that I and Geddy shared when we were destined here together. The first thing I checked is the supposed acacia tree just beside the house that mysteriously grew one day.
It was supposed to be located at the back of the house, facing the windows of the living room and Geddy's room.
But there's no tree there.
I guess Dimito has nothing to survey here now that Geddy is dead.
King Dimito was known as Jerry Karait's lover, according to uncle Jerry's journal that is now an important archive of NBI. If uncle Jerry is still alive, he must be embarrassed since he wrote some of their sexy times there. It was very graphic, too.
I remember when King Dimito thought Geddy was his own father. It was weird, but I think even though Geddy explained he's not uncle Jerry, the King still held importance of that guy. It's funny because Geddy has the opposite personality from his father.
Now that Geddy is gone, the tree is also now gone.
I went inside the house. The locks are now replaced, probably the works of the people from the police station. Overall, it doesn't look like it was ransacked by the very syndicate that killed my cousin.
I went up to the stairs leading to our rooms. Geddy's window is still open. It's breezy, and probably, all the smell that was of Geddy has been blown by the wind. It's just an empty room now.
So as mine.
I sat at the bed I used to lie unto. I breathed. I lay on the dusty pillow and thought of a plan.
Well, I have nothing.
In the meantime, I'll just let my presence be known.
[Author's Note: Hi. This is the second book of the Creature of the Woods, and honestly, I thought I can never write a sequel. Thanks for the votes, tho. That really triggered my head to make a second book. Hope you like it.
By the way, I think this book can stand alone without reading the first book. But read that book for lesser confusion.Vote and Comment. ]
