In high school, things follow a certain social order. You have the popular kids; the jocks, cheerleaders, drill team, student council. The activities you'd expect to be on the top of the high school "food chain".
Then you have the middle class students. The marching band, orchestra, choir. The clubs that people care about, but they most definitely do not run the school like the jocks.
Finally, you have the lower class nerds and geeks; the anime club, the robotics team, and of course, theatre.
Of course, when you hear football player, and then hear that a football player is associated with someone in the bottom class, it throws off the balance of everything. People start questioning the worlds philosophies. It's literally all anybody can think of. Its just not natural or humane for someone so cool and looked up to, to be associated with someone that nobody has ever even heard of.___________________________________
Andrew James, the 5'9 dream guy, is the Barnum High School quarterback. He has anything any guy could want; the hot cheerleader as his girlfriend, the respect a quarterback should get. Everyone loved Andrew.
He lives in a large home due to his wealthy parents owning their own real estate agency. Him and his younger sister Juliette are spoiled rotten by their adoring parents, they get everything from piles upon piles of clothes, to the newest phones that are released.
Andrew makes average grades for someone his age, mostly B's, sometimes some C's. He really does try to be nice to his teachers and classmates, though, unlike some of the other guys on the football team who talk back to the teachers and catcall random chicks in the halls. He was raised better than to disrespect people like that.
Even though Andrew should hate the people in the lower class of the school, he really doesn't have a reason to hate them. He'd never really talked to people outside his friend group except for the occasional "hello" or "sorry" if he bumped into them in the hallways.
However, one specific time he remembered was when he bumped into a much smaller boy he'd recognized as the theatre kid everyone called gay. He'd seen him crying in the bathroom once after he was just tormented by some of the other football players. Andrew noticed this kid frequently, and never really saw him with anyone to talk to, so he made an extra effort to smile at him when he saw the kid in the hallway.
And on the other side, there's Benjamin Oliver, the 5'5 closeted gay theatre kid, always noticed the tall football player send him sweet smile at him in the halls. "Get a hold of yourself Ben, it's just a stupid pity smile." he always told himself, but he could never convince himself that it was true.
Ben lives with him mom in a small apartment every other week, and at his dad's place the days he isn't with his mom. His mother is his best friend, and she supports him in everything he does. Ben has yet to come out to anyone, but he always said she'd be the first person he would tell because he knew that his mother would always love and support him, no matter what.
When he's with his father, stepmom, and step siblings, he feels more out of place than with his mom. Heidi, Ben's stepmom, is always trying to bond with him. She's pretty much figured out that he's gay by just he way he holds himself, and she treats him like it's the only thing that she cares about with him. Ben knew she meant well, but he still didn't care too much for his step mother.
His father, however, was a different story. He hated him. Ben knew he was a homophobe, and they disagreed at everything. It seemed as if his father, Laine, liked his step children better than his own son.
Bens step siblings, Tristan, Addy, and his half sister Bailey, weren't exactly his favorite people either. He liked them better than his dad and Heidi, but they definitely weren't as adored by him as his mother. To be honest, Bailey was his favorite. Perhaps it was because she was only 2, but she seemed to really connect with Ben the most.
To sum Benjamin's life up, it was rough. But he had already made it through 17 years, and through his senior year, he'd make it through happily with a new best friend, someone that he loved and trusted dearly, through his struggles and pains.___________________________________
