Kara turned to see five guys walking up to them. Kara stepped in front of Nova and took her hand.

"Who are they?" Nova whispered.

"Danny and his goons. They hate me" Kara responded. The guys had come up to them and Danny was looking back and fourth between the two girls.

"Well who is this little one?" Danny asked eyeing Nova. Nova stepped back so she was even more behind Kara.

"Leave us alone Danny." Kara demanded.

Danny stepped forward so they were just inches apart, "Not until you show us who you really are." He whispered. Kara stood her ground, she wasn't about to expose her identity to this fool anytime soon. When Kara didn't answer Danny spoke again, "No? Okay, Have it your way." Danny made a signal to his goons. They started walking forward.

Kara quickly turned to Nova, "don't use your powers. Act human." She whispered in her ear. Suddenly two guys were on each of them. One holding each arm. Nova struggled slightly but made herself look weak, like Kara told her to. Danny walked up to Kara again. "I know what you are." He said, "come on, freak. Show me who you are. Show me your powers."

"Stop this!" Kara demanded.

"Why won't you just admit it!" Danny yelled, "Well, you've brought tgis upon yourself" Danny walked over to Nova. She shrunk as small as she could. He smiled and snatched her bag from her and dumped its contents onto the gravel floor. "Oops" Danny said mockingly.

"Stop it!" Kara yelled.

"Ooh," Danny said, amused, "feisty are we now?" He smirked. Danny was much bigger than her, and if she didn't have superpowers she would be completely vulnerable. But she knew that if she used her powers she and Nova would be exposed. So Kara refrained, she held back. But if things got worse, she would make sure that all five of them paid for it.

But before she could protest, she heard someone yell. "let go of her!" And all of a sudden she saw Mike punch Danny square in the face. Danny was caught off guard so Mike punched him again, harder this time. The two boys holding Kara's arms gasped and Mike spoke again,
"Let go of her or else you'll end up like him." Mike pointed to Danny, who was now puking on the gravel. All four of Danny's goons ran away. Kara looked stunned and Nova immediately started collecting the contents of her bag. Mike came up next to Kara and he put his hand on her back.

"I'm sorry about them." Mike said. They stayed there for a moment, until Nova walked up and put her hand on Kara's shoulder. Kara pulled Nova into a hug and whispered,

"I'm sorry, but you were really strong." Nova nodded.

"We should get going," Mike started, "they might've called the teachers." Mike led Kara and Nova into the parking lot and up to a red truck. Mike opened the doors and Kara helped Nova into the backseat, then sat in the front next to Mike. Kara told him their address and they were off. They drove in silence for a while. All three of them were exhausted. Kara turned in her seat to look at Nova, but she was asleep.

"Thank you, for helping us." Kara said once she was facing forward again. Mike looked at her and smiled.

"Anytime"

"So are we still on for Saturday?" Kara asked.

"Totally, How about I swing by at 2?" Mike offered.

"Sounds good." Kara smiled, "hey do you have a phone?" Mike nodded and pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to her. Kara created a new contact, put in her number and sent herself a text. Mike smiled and Kara handed back the phone. Soon after, they pulled up in front of their house. Mike looked at Kara,

"You sure you're okay?" He looked concerned. Kara nodded.

"Thanks again. I can't wait for Saturday" she leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek. Just a quick peck, but enough to turn Mike's cheeks bright red. She immediately got out of the car and gently woke Nova up. Kara helped her out and she shut the door. They walked to the door together and Nova went inside, Kara turned around and looked at Mike one final time. She waved and he waved back. Then he drove off, leaving Kara staring into the dark night.
