I couldn't eat more than a few bites. My stomach churned at the taste. I poked at my food with a plastic fork as Manny and Evan chowed down. Bryan arrived around noon with a bouquet of balloons, a whiteboard and collection of Get Well Soon cards from various fans.

"How's he doing?" He asked and joined us.

"He was awake but a bit out of it." I told him.

"He slapped me." Evan protested with a laugh. "Did you cancel the last few shows?"

"I had to." Bryan told him. "You were the headlining band."

"The rest could've made it without us." I laughed.

"They didn't." He smiled. "Kevin's safety is worth more than a concert."

"Thanks Bryan."

"So what room is he in?" He asked

"217 I think." I stood up. "I'll show you."

"We'll be up in a bit." Evan shouted as we left.

"I saw Mannys tweet. He looks like shit."

"Ya." I agreed halfheartedly.

"Are you afraid?"

"Ya."

He continued talking but I zoned him out. Judging by his blank stare it was my turn to talk.

"Ya."

"You didn't hear a word I just said did you?"

"No." I admitted.

"I asked if you needed anything."

"Sleep." I yawned. "Clothes, Kevin." I shrugged. "I need him to be okay."

"What did he break?" Bryan asked as we clambered into the elevator with three other visitors and a doctor inside.

"Fractured ankle, three broken ribs, and broken jaw." I cringed at the thought.

"What's the worst?"

"Jaw for sure." I looked at the ground. "They put metal plates in his ribs and a screw in his ankle. His jaw is wired shut and swollen and he looks like hell man."

We stepped out and I led him down the hall to Kevins room. Kevin was on the bed with his eyes closed.

"I'm back." I tapped on the doorframe. "Brought a friend."

Kevin opened his eyes slowly. He saw Bryan and waved slightly.

"Hey man." Bryan se the balloons and the cards beside the bear I had bought and sat on the couch along the window. "Got you a whiteboard so you can communicate. How's that?"

Kevin gave him a thumbs up.

"Need anything?" I asked as Bryan attempted to tear the plastic off of the whiteboard.

Kevin motioned to the water bottle on the bed side. I picked it up, along with the small pink tub. I held the tub under his mouth and squirted seem water inside. Most of it he swallowed but some dripped from his lips. I pulled the tub away and he grabbed the hose to suck out the water left around his gums.

"What color?" Bryan held out a blue, pink, purple, and black whiteboard marker. Kevin grabbed the blue and Bryan handed him the whiteboard. "How you feeling man?"

Kevin struggled to remove the cap, but once it was of he scribbled on the whiteboard.

Numb

"What hurts most?" I asked. "Mouth, ankle, or ribs?"

He pointed to the word already written.

"Everything's numb?" Bryan asked.

He nodded.

"These are from fans." Bryan gestured to the cards and balloons. "Read them when you can."

Kevin gave a thumbs up.

"What the hell is this?" Bryan asked, looking up at the tv where the same bird and raccoon seemed to be picking up trash at a park.

Kevin used the eraser at the top of the marker to clear the white board before writing.

Regular Show

"I have no idea what that is." I admitted with a slight laugh.

He shrugged me off and pressed the morphine button.

"How strong is his dose?" Bryan asked.

"Not quite sure but I'm guessing it's strong." My thoughts trailed off as I pretended to enjoy the weird cartoon that was playing. It would take 6-8 weeks for his jaw to heal, 3-6 for his ribs to heal, and 6 weeks for his ankle to heal. And that's only if no other problems occur.

I noticed Kevin's breathing becoming shallower and I got up to push the humidifier closer. "Breathe" I reminded him.

The nurse walked in as I had my body practically draped over Kevin's. He chuckled. "I remember when my boyfriend was in the hospital, gotta control yourself though."

Both Kevin's and my face flushed red. "Oh-we-uh." I climbed off of him. "Just fixing the-uh-thing." I smiled through the corner of my mouth.

Kevin quickly scribbled on the whiteboard.

Love you too! With a slanted heart.

I smiled a bit before focusing my attention to the nurse. "Nurse?" I struggled to read his name tag. "Travis?"

"Travice." He corrected with a smile. "And yes?"

"How long is he supposed to stay in here for?" I asked.

"Well, as of right now a good week or so extra, more if any other problems come up."

"What sort of problems are we talking about?" Bryan asked and I dreaded the answer.

"Well there's a high chance of breathing problems due to the ribs, and if he doesn't pee today then he'll need a catheter, the medication he is on could be damaging to his heart, numerous things could go wrong but as of right now-" he turned to the monitor behind him and trailed off.

"As of right now what?" I asked.

He quickly grabbed the phone off the wall. "We need a doctor in 217 stat!"
