"Now, time is against us so we really must be going." Charles briefly declared after an awkward quiet moment.

"What?, now!?" I was quick to point out whereas Peter just looked shocked. Peter was usually only half interested in what was going on around him but today was different. It's not that he was ignorant or anything he just seemed to always be in his own little world. He would usually just reply with a yes or a no and never really looked anyone in the eye to show he was listening and paying attention, or was that just me? I shrugged off the unexpected thought and waited for an answer.

"As I said, time is against us, I'll explain the rest on the way there." Charles repeated and I could see Peter trying not to laugh as he glanced at the ground. What would he know about time... he had all the time in the world and more.

It was now or never that I had to trust these strangers... Peter did. What about my family? I was going to be gone for a while and I hardly knew where I was going. I started to jump to conclusions and started to picture possible consequences of the future if I went with them. My mum and dad would be so worried and knowing them they would probably phone the police and get the whole country involved to find me. Only because I was gone for a few days. Given the circumstances, I didn't really have much of a choice to disagree.

They began to walk up the stairs and I followed behind them. Every footstep was heavy and beckoning me to turn back, a small warning that was easily ignored. My hands slipped into the pockets of my denim jacket in an act of uncertainty and worried behaviour. I felt a smooth square object inside my right pocket and immediately looked down to see what it was, keeping up behind Peter. I had completely forgotten about the present he had given to me and reminded myself to open it in a few days. Placing it back in my pocket I got ready to walk through the front door. I glanced back to see Peter's mum in the garden with Wanda and Lorna, Peter's little sisters. She looked so peaceful, unaware her foster son was leaving with some strangers. Peter didn't make any effort to tell her where he was going and persisted to walk out of the front door. She had no idea and I think Peter wanted it to remain that way.

Peter held the front door for me and I reluctantly stepped out, shooting him a thankful smile. The door shut behind Peter and he walked behind me as I watched Charles open the front car door. Even though I didn't know a lot about cars the car looked expensive. Hank got in at the other side and Logan got in the back. Peter squiggled across to the middle seat at the back and I sat to the left side next to him. The seats were covered in beige leather and were extremely comfortable and ideal for long car journeys. I put my seatbelt on and everything began to feel more real. Adrenaline began to pour into my blood and my heart began to beat faster. What was I getting into?... Peter turned to look at me to his right and pulled a stupid smile. I couldn't help but smile stupidly back. The thoughts about being worried and unsafe were decreasing rapidly now.

Logan looked uncomfortable and rested his head on his hand against the window. I looked to my right and glanced out the window. The last couple of days had been sunny and warm; the perfect conditions for playing outside. Peter's next door neighbours were oblivious to the fact that Peter had just got into a car with some strangers, but I guess that was a good thing. They were sunbathing and didn't have a care in the world. The engine burst to life and startled me and I lost my train of thought. Peter noticed that I just jumped out of my skin and held back a laugh, I sighed and realised this was going to be a very long car journey.

Thirty minutes had passed and during that time no one really said anything except just awkward glances at each other. In the first ten minutes, we had told each other about ourselves and that was about it. Later on I had learnt about the whole mutant thing and what I was. I have to say I wasn't exactly shocked... Should I be? Hank had told me about finding out more on what I was capable of in terms of mutant powers when he had time. I had no idea how he was going to do that but he looked like the sort of guy who knew a lot about sciencey stuff. Logan had told me about how he was from the future, although I still don't believe him. He was talking about Sentinels, and tried his best at explaining, and what we had to do. I didn't really understand but I knew what the plan was and I guess that's good enough. And Peter just made me laugh the whole way through the journey.

"So are you two related?" Hank asked, peering at us in the rear view mirror.

"What? NO!" Me and Peter protested at the same time.

"Oh sorry." Hank apologised. "I didn't think you were. You don't exactly resemble each other or anything."

"I'm glad." Peter replied giggling, infering that I was ugly, I nudged him with my elbow and he whispered 'ow'.

"Peter is the son of an old friend and Azalia is a great help to us, they are both going to make this ten times easier." Charles explained quietly, keeping his eyes on the road ahead whilst directing his words at Hank.

"What am I like in the future?" Peter asked Logan.

"I can't really tell you much, I've met you a few times. You're not really any different." Logan grumbled like it was a bad thing and I tried not to laugh. "I think you've got a family."

"Can you tell me about them?"

"No. It's not a very interesting story." Logan explained and his words trailed off. It sounded like something had happened to them or something.

"What about my future." I said after a few seconds of awkwardness.

"I've never met you, until now." Logan replied, the tone in his voice hadn't changed since I first met him, forty minutes ago. Maybe he always spoke like this, like his mind was constantly focusing on something more important.

"But you can change the future right?, that's why you came here." I asked Logan, a hint of pleading in my voice.

"I don't know." He replied agitated but answered genuinely, it sounds like the whole world depends on him, which it does.
