"There, finished at last," my twin and I smiled, wiping our hands.
Her mother frowned, "Something's missing."
"Let's go!" we said, pulling her out of the room. We stopped to take one last look at my mother, who put out a nervous, double thumbs-up and went to do the same as us.
We exited the room, and realizing something, my twin and I stopped her, "Wait!" we warned, "What do we do if somebody sees (me/her)?!"
"Good point," her mother acknowledged, pointing her finger at the air for a second. Mine had done the same thing before, I remembered, and that usually meant she was thinking.
"I have an idea; it'll just take a sec," she smiled, grabbing my arm. She pulled me back towards her room. She pulled out a pink wig and fitted it onto my head, then flipped a brown marker and dotted some freckles onto my cheeks. Then she gave me an old pair of glasses.
"Now you look nothing like my daughter," she approved.
"Maybe we can lose the pink?" My doppelgänger and I requested, knowing that it would stand out too much.
"Right," her mother laughed sheepishly, pulling it back off. Instead, she told me to pull my hair out.
"Alright," she nodded, "That's better. Let's go."
We smiled, giggling slightly, and ran out the door. As we were heading out the door, we were stopped by my twin's dad.
"Hey!" he gave a friendly smile, "Where're you guys going?" He gave an odd look when he noticed me.
"I'm taking them to get a gift for, um, a friend," his wife responded, trying to be nonchalant.
"And when did she get here?" He gestured to me.
"(She/I) came over half an hour ago. You weren't around." My twin and I said. Another odd look.
"Okay, well, have fun, I guess." He raised his eyebrows at the mother, in a way that said 'We didn't discuss this but we will later'. She nodded, hurrying us out the door and into the car.
Strapping on our seatbelts, she turned around to us, "Maybe you guys should just let me do the talking. You guys seem to be talking in sync and people might find that a little creepy."
We laughed, "It's probably 'cause she's my (reflection/mirror image)." We looked at each other and laughed some more, "This is so weird! Okay stop it! You stop it!"
Her mother joined in the laughter, "Okay, guys, at least try and calm down when we get to the store." She turned her key, starting up the car, and shifted into gear.
"I feel like a lunatic."
And we drove off.
