Annabeth POV

Would he come back? He promised me, he'd find his way back.

My Seaweed Brain promised.

*flashback*

"Annabeth, " Percy called down to me. He seemed nervous. I didn't know why. I walked into our bedroom, we were now married. No children, we aren't ready yet. Percy was sitting on our king sized bed. He was fiddling with his hands. "Annabeth, I've made a decision." My mind began to race. Not now.... he wasn't going to divorce with me! "I'm going to join the army."

He said softly. "Percy, no!" I screamed. "You're a children of the big three, and a strong man. The chances of you dying....." I faltered. I began to cry. "I know, Wise Girl, but it's the right thing to do. Hundreds of  people are dying, innocents. I have a chance to stop it. And I'll take it." He said. I loved him, so I told him,"Okay."

I took a shaky  breath. "When do you leave?" Percy lowered his eyes. "Percy, tell me."

I only then realised that he was dressed already. Something ate at me.

"Now." He gasped out." I have to go now."

More tears came, and I curled into him, enjoying this last bit of time with him.

He comforted me for 5 minutes, until he got up and kissed me.

"See you in a couple of years." He whispered. "I promise I'll find my way back to you."

The last I heard or saw of him was the door banging closed for the last time in years.

*Flashback end*

Percy told me he'd come back. It has been the most sad, depressing 4 years of my life. He was supposed to be home. He was my light, my lover, the lamp in darkness of the life of the demigod.

Suddenly, a doorbell ring shook me out of my thoughts. Was it? Did I dare to hope? I knew the chances were slim, but Percy defied the odds.

I made my way to the door, and I opened it and saw a man in an army uniform........

Muscular and handsome, with a stance that presented that fact he knew a lot of pain. I looked up.......

He had brown eyes. My breath hitched.

"Miss Jackson?" I nodded, my panic beginning to build.

"I'm so sorry....." he said."May I come in?"

I let him in, and he sat down. I realised he was crying.

"My name is Arthur Houston, I'm Percy's comrade."

He took a deep shaky breath. "I'm so sorry, Miss Jackson......... Percy's dead."

It was a blur. The next thing I know, my throats is raw from screaming and crying, and I'm sitting in the embrace of Arthur.

I remembered the bang of the door as Percy left. I remembered his promise, his lips, his warm embrace, the beautiful eyes and tousled black hair.

It was never going to happen again. I took a photo on the table and pressed close to my face. It was me and Percy, when we were eighteen, 4 years ago. He was kissing me, a glittering diamond ring on my finger and his.

My heart broke. There was nothing to be done.

Percy was dead. And inside, I was too.

Don't worry, demigods, there will be a part two!

Peace out,

Ally Martin
