I asked her
If she was okay
And she laughed a little too hard
And smiled a little too big
And she told me she was
And at that moment
I realized
She wasn't
Okay
At all.

I asked her
If she was okay
And she wrote me a poem
Called "happiness."
And she held my hand
Too tight.
While I read it
Her smile strained.
And I frowned
Because she didn't answer me.

I asked her
If she was okay
And she didn't reply.
So I went to her house
And found her on the bathroom floor
Covered in blood and broken memory.
And all the god damn words in the world in the world couldn't save her in that moment.

My friend asked me
If I was okay
I closed my eyes to think about it
And I opened them once more
And I smiled at him
But I didn't speak
Because there were no words
And he nodded.
But I saw doubt in his eyes.
