Chapter 30: Back for Good
Holly’s POV
The next morning when I wake up, the first thing I see is an enormous window.
I look out the window and to my joy, I notice the Justice Building growing in the distance.
* * *
When the train pulls into the station, I can’t get off fast enough.
I step off the train onto the platform and think I must be dreaming when I see Jennifer and Liam, standing hand in hand on the platform.
“Hey baby H.” Jennifer says, running over to me.
“Jen!” I shout, hugging her. “You’re alive!”
She smiles at me. “You’re welcome by the way. And it’s ok. I knew you didn’t mean it.”
I look questioningly at her.
“Interview.” She says.
I nod then glare at her.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me!” I shout.
“Tell you what?” Jennifer asks.
“That he kissed you!” I hiss.
She blushes and I laugh.
I can see Liam watching us and I run full pelt over to him. He catches me and lifts me up, hugging me tightly.
“Hey Holl.” He says.
“Thank you.” I croak, my eyes blurring.
He nods. “You’re welcome. Just remember-”
“In silence the universe answers.” We say together.
I laugh.
“Excuse me baby H. My turn.” Jennifer says.
Liam laughs and sets me down before lifting her and hugging her as well.
“Thank you.” She says.
I raise my eyebrow suggestively.
“Shut it baby H. If you’re twelve and your Daddy lets you have a boyfriend, I’m way past you.”
I laugh. “Whatever Jen!” I say.
She smiles and kisses Liam.
Eurgh!” I say, grimacing.
Liam laughs.
“Shall we go home?” Jennifer asks.
I nod eagerly and we make our way back to Katniss and Peeta’s house.
* * *
Jennifer knocks on the door and I hide behind Liam, undecided as to whether I want to be overwhelmed with everyone’s presence yet.
“Jennifer! Liam!” I hear Katniss say.
Liam and Jennifer go inside and I’m left outside with Katniss.
“Hey Holl.” She says.
I smile. “Hi.”
“We missed you.” She says.
“I missed you too.” I say, hugging her.
“Logan missed you.” She says.
I smile. “I missed him too.”
“You want to go inside?” She asks.
I nod and we walk into the house.
Before we go into the kitchen, where everyone else is, Katniss stops and turns to me.
“They might not say it, but they’ve told me. Annie and Johanna are grateful that you thought for even a second that their children’s lives might be more valuable than yours.”
I nod. “I know my Dad would say the same to Liam and Jennifer.”
She smiles.
We enter the kitchen and I see Logan.
He runs to hug me and for a moment, it’s like the world has stopped.
“Aww! Baby H is growing up!” Jennifer teases.
I glare at her.
“And she has a glare of steel!” Jennifer says, mock shuddering.
“Jennifer!” Her mother warns.
I smile gratefully at her and Jennifer blushes.
I look around the room, looking for somewhere to sit really.
The six dining chairs are being occupied by Annie, Johanna, Kurt, who’s Jennifer’s dad, Willow, Peeta and Katniss. Liam and Jennifer are sitting on one of the garden benches that has been brought in and Logan and I are the only ones standing.
“Hey Katniss, can I ask you something please?” I ask, looking at the door.
She nods. “Sure Holl.”
I walk into the hallway and she follows me.
“What’s wrong?” She asks.
