Chapter 25: The Games Have Begun . . .

Holly’s POV

I know from the moment the pedestal had reached the arena that my life is in danger. I don’t have any significant weapon though I am handy with a knife and a bow. I just grab whatever backpack I can get my hands on and run towards the forest.

When I am safely inside the forest, I notice Liam in a lake nearby. I walk slowly towards him but my feet crunch some dead leaves and he spins around, throwing his trident straight at me. It would have gone through my heart had I not leapt out of the way in the nick of time. Liam’s eyes widen as the trident pierces the tree that’s behind me.

“Holly. I’m sorry I didn’t know it was you.” Liam says.

I nod. “It’s ok.”

Liam climbs out of the lake and walks to a hollow tree nearby.

“I was told you would be my ally, so I took the liberty of rescuing these for you.” He tells me, handing me a bow, a sheath of arrows and three different knives.

“Thank you!” I breathe.

Suddenly I hear footsteps behind me.

“Quick!” I shout. “Someone’s coming!”

Liam and I run through the forest. I stop suddenly by a clearing as I heard scratching.

“Holly!” Liam shouts. “Come on!”

“Hang on.” I tell him. “I think I heard something.”

I rush through the forest, my bow loaded in front of me. Liam follows closely behind, looking behind him every couple of minutes.

And then something falls, rather gracefully, out of a tree in the distance.

I scream and before I know it, Liam’s trident is through the tree.

“Someone needs to be careful about where they throw their weapons.” Comes a voice.

The thing that fell from the tree is gone, and walking towards us in none other than Jennifer Mason.

“Careful where you throw this.” She says, handing Liam his trident.

“Why thank you.” He says sarcastically. “I didn’t realise that I was meant to be careful about harming people in the Hunger Games.”

“You’re stepping over the line.” Jennifer warns, a steely tone to her voice.

Liam glares at her and her sharp eyes dart around the clearing before landing

on me.

“Liam! You stole my ally!” She cries, glaring at Liam.

Liam laughs. “Who said she was your ally?!”

“Me!” Jennifer shouts.

“Maybe you two should keep it down.” I suggest. “The last thing we want is a career appearing ready to kill.”

“In case you didn’t notice Miss Hawthorne, I am a career. And I have no intention of killing you.” Liam says.

“Yet.” I mutter under my breath.

“What was that?” Liam asks.

I shake my head. “Nothing.”

“So little Hawthorne, who do you want as an ally? This meathead, or me?” Jennifer asks.

Liam scoffs. “Like I’m the meathead in the trio.”

“Could you two try to get along for the sake of the three of us?” I suggest.

Liam and Jennifer look at each other for a second before wincing.

“You two are ridiculous.” I tell them. “I don’t think your mothers would approve.”

The two of them look at me as if I’ve slapped them. I know what their weaknesses are. And that’s handy in the arena.

OMG! Holly being evil!

Anyway, I'm SUPER sorry for not uploading in like forever. I've written up to chapter 31, but my internet has been down for three days and I was itching to update.

I'll update up to chapter 30 today as I haven't quite finished 31 yet!

Thanks!
