The one where I arrive

I stepped of the plane into Sydney airport with Jenny, a huge grin on my face. Finally I was here, since I was 15 I've been dreaming of this moment and now it was finally happening.

We walked into the terminal to be faced with a sea of people waiting for loved ones. A blonde girl around 5'11 starting pushing her way through the crowd towards us pulling faces as she got jostled towards others doing the same.

"Ugh" she cried as she arrived in front of us. "There are a lot of reasons I don't do crowds, and the main one is people."

She smiled and reached down to wrap her arms around the smaller woman next to me. "Hey auntie Jen, how was the flight? Did Ben manage to keep the plane in the air?"

So this must be Jenny's niece, the one she was talking about, the Bondi one. She looked friendly enough. She was wearing a pair of overalls with her hair pulled up into a bun and smudged glasses balanced on the bridge of her nose. She had a camera hung round her neck which swung about everytime she turned and occasionally she swung it to far and had to apologise to someone she's hit.

"It was great for a first journey, and he must have if we ended up here" Jenny smiled. "Aimee" she said pointing to me, "This is Tessa, she's just moved here, she's going to be living in Bondi. She's trying out to be a lifeguard"

"Awesome" The girl said, her blue eyes crinkling as she smiled at me. "I'll have to show you around some time. I'll see if I can pull a few strings and get you into the boys in blue" She paused and frowned, "Well you'd be a girl in blue obviously, because you know, your not a guy, not that thats an issue I mean. You are a she right? Not like you don't look like one. Oh god I need to ask pronouns first, I'm so sorry."

I smiled at her flustered rambling. "It's okay, I use feminine pronouns yes." She sighed in relief and turned to Jenny saying something about the flight.  I furrowed my eyebrows slightly at her accent, trying to figure it out. There were hints of an aussie accent and then hints of others.

"My accent?" She asked as I stood there looking confused. I nodded and she laughed. "I'm originally from Wales, by the border into England so I had a mixture of a Welsh and Bristolian accent. And then I moved here a few years ago and picked up some of the aussie accent. Don't worry" She laughed, "A lot of people get confused."

I sighed in relief, glad I wasn't the only one to query it. "I best be going," I said, "I need to get myself sorted out and moved in."

Aimee and Jenny nodded. "Here, have my number," Aimee said as she scribbled something down on a piece of paper. "Call me if you need any help finding your way around."

I took the phone number and thanked them both for their kindness. After collecting my bags I let myself loose on the streets of Sydney.

I managed to find myself a taxi and arrived at Bondi in one piece. The taxi pulled up to the address I had been given by the man selling the apartment and I payed the taxi driver. Hopping out onto the pavement and grabbing my bags I faced the building. It wasn't anything special but it wasn't a dump. I pulled my bags up the steps and opened the door. My apartment was on the fifth floor but luckily it had a lift otherwise I would have been stuffed.

The lift dinged and the doors opened up to the fifth floor. There were only 3 apartments per floor but my apartment was the only one that would be lived in as it was a new building and the others had yet to be sold.

I unlocked the door and headed in, the walls were white and there were huge windows scattered around the place making the small open plan room look enormous. I dumped my bags, ran to the window and squealed in delight. The view was amazing, I could see across the whole of Bondi, the sea glittering in the sunlight, people crowding the sand and the shallows. If I looked closely I could see little specks of blue running in and out of the water. I grinned, the lifeguards, that will be me out there someday.
