Of course the first thing I heard when I woke up was Aimee on the phone asking what had happened last night. I managed to pursuade her to hold on for an hour or so, long enough for me to get dressed and come over. She agreed reluctantly but only due to the fact that Mouse - The Black Cloud - managed to drop Alfie's teddy in the sink with the dirty plates and water. She hung up after making me promise that I'd be over in an hour to tell her what happened.
As I walked up to Aimee's front gate, I was met by Kita rolling around infront of me. I quickly gave her a tickle around the ears and knocked on the front door.
Aimee answered the door with questions, "What happened? Was it great? Did he kiss you?"
I laughed, "We went to dinner and watched the sunset and dolphins, yes, and yes, but not thanks to Mouse, Reidy, Kita and Mugsy."
Aimee's eyes widened. "Oh my gosh, what the hell did they do?"
Laughing at Aimee's horrified face, didn't really go down well with her. She stood there looking at me untill I explained. She was hiding her face in her hands by the time I finished.
She turned to Kita who was sat beside her. "Kita, you naughty girl! What do you say to Tessa? Say sorry!"
Kita turned to me and placed a large brown paw in my lap. She barked quietly and bowed her head.
"That was adorable," I cooed, "Thank you Kita darling." Aimee laughed and gave Kita some bacon left on a plate from breakfast.
"Anyway," I said to Aimee after she had finished quizzing me on my date. "How did you end up at Bondi and meeting the boys?" Aimee's smile faltered slightly, "I mean you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
She smiled weakly, "No the boys are great. I suppose you kinda deserve an explanation for my behaviour the other day too." She adjusted herself on her seat. "I have bad anxiety. I'm on meds to help it and usually I can keep it under control but if I'm under a lot of stress I kinda lose that control amd can end up having a panic attack. That's why I was a bit odd the other day at the tryouts."
Suddenly Aimee's dislike of people and crowds became clearer. It wasn't she was antisocial it was that the people triggered her anxiety. "How do you cope with being a nurse then?"
She smiled, "Good question, I don't really know. I mean I guess I know that if I'm helping people it kind acts as stress relief, I know I can't get stressed because if I do I could end up hurting the patient. It works quite well really."
"I suppose that makes sense... How did you end up in Australia then? How did you meet the boys?"
Followed my boyfriend out here. Kurt his name was. When I was 18, he was 20 I think he decided with a group of friends to spend a few years out here so I came too." She paused to see whether I was still listening. "The day before my 19th I caught him in bed with my so called best friend who had come out here with us. I ran out on him, swearing I would never speak to him again. I moved in here. I didn't really talk much to everyone round here, but I saw Kurt one day and ended up having a panic attack on the driveway. Reidy saw me and helped me out and hasn't really left me alone since." She smiled, laughing for a second. "Anyway, he was great and decided to introduce me to the boys at a barbie. It was during this barbie I got a phone call from someone back home saying I had a 4 day old nephew who's mother, my older sister, and grandmother, my mother, had just died in a car accident on her way home from hospital and who's father has a life sentence for murder and I had been listed as his next of kin and therefore he was my responsibility and if I didnt want him he would go into care. Reidy and Whippet announced themselves as my 'personal carers' and flew out with me to pick him up. I found it difficult to start with, I had no clue what I was doing and I kept having panic attacks so Reidy said I wasn't allowed to be left alone. I was shopping with Alfie and Mouse as my supervisor when I had one and he helped me through it and has been ever since." She smiled and rubbed a few tears from her watery eyes. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else though, I don't know where I would be without them." She slouched back in her chair.
"I'm so sorry," I said weakly, "About your mum and sister." I really wanted to do something for her but I didn't know what I could do.
She snorted, "People always say that, I just think they're glad it wasnt their family who died."
"Really though, I wish I could have been there to help you."
She half smiled. "Thanks."
The doorbell rang and Kita rushed to the door closely followed by Aimee.
"Hey!" I heard Aimee say, "What are you doing here? I wasn't supposed to meet you anywhere was it?"
The person the other side laughed and said something and Aimee moved to the side letting them in.
"Tessa hey!" Said the voice as Charlotte made her way into the kitchen, "How are you? The date go okay?"
"Yeah," I grinned at her. "We were dissussing how Mouse and Aimee met. How did you and Harrison meet?"
Aimee snorted. "Best story ever."
Charlotte rolled her eyes and leant against the worktops. "Well I knew Aimee from the hospital and when we were out one night she said that Mouse and few of his mates were looking to set someone up with a girl and she said she thought we would get along well together. All she told me was where to be and when. So I turned up randomly to this place, no clue who I was meeting, just knowing that apparently I would know which guy was my date. I walked into this place to find a really seedy bar filled with creepy old men and the most discusting smell I had ever encountered. He wasnt there when I turned up but I finally saw him when he walked in looking like he was about to throw up. He was half the age of the rest of the guys in there and half the size as well! We left pretty soon and tried to get a table somewhere else but absolutely everywhere said they were full or just about to close. Turns out these guys had gone round and told everyone not to let us in." Aimee sniggered and Charlotte glared at her. "We ended up having out first date at maccas, surrounded by a group of drunken english lads on a rugby tour."
I couldn't help myself and snorted, causing Aimee to burst out laughing. "Tess you should have seen her face when she tokd me the next day! It was amazing! And Hutz was soooo angry when he found out the boys planned it all!"
"It wasn't funny at all!" Charlotte complained loudly.
"They filmed it and put it on one of the episodes! It was hilarious!" Aimee said as she fetched Alfie from Kita's bed and bounced him on her knee. Charlotte scowled and pulled a face at her which I suppose was exceptable seeing as though she was the youngest here, excluding Alfie of course. Aimee's phone lit up and she shot out of her seat like it was on fire.
"Shit! Why disn't you tell me that was the time? I've got to go, I have a lecture at the hospital. You guys can let yourselves out once you finish your drinks right? The front door locks automatically so dont worry about that." She hitched Alfie up onto her hip and practically flew out of the door.
"Well bye then..." Charlotte called out sarcastically, "Nice seeing you."
I laughed. "I never knew Aimee had to deal with all that crap," I said quietly.
"Yeah," agreed Charlotte, "But she has the boys, and us now."
I nodded. "Definitely, through anything."
