Edward's POV
I couldn't believe my life now. I never felt some complete and happy. Our family was truly enamored with the two little babies who crawled around our house getting into mischief. Lizzie and Skylar were identical in appearance, but they were already so different. Skylar was so quiet and thoughtful and Lizzie was always laughing and she had me wrapped around her little finger. Lizzie also had a very healthy monstrous appetite, Leah made a big deal about trying to feed the girls the same about of blood daily, but I knew that if simply wasn't enough for our Lizzie. That's why we'd started doing our midnight snacks. I'd slip out of bed once Leah was sleeping peacefully and crept into the nursery. Lizzie was standing in her crib waiting for me as always.
"Hey little girl," I whispered as I lifted her into my arms. "Ready for some red juice?" She gurgled as she fit four of her fingers in her mouth. I kissed her chubby little cheek before rushing us down the stairs. I slowed down and repositioned her on my hip as I prepared her snack. I got Lizzie's sippy cup and sat on the couch and fed her. I loved when her green eyes sparkled as she stared at me. There were only thoughts of love that came from her. This was our little secret; I knew that for some reason Lizzie didn't deal with her thirst as well as Skylar. Lizzie placed her hand on mine while she sipped from the cup and swung her legs. She was so content and she shared with me the little bits and pieces of her day through her mind. She showed how well mommy took care of both of them. She thought about how Rose took her outside the other day and she really liked that. She saw Skylar and Esme over by the flowers, but her favorite part crawl around and playing with Rosalie.
"It seems like you had a very fun day while I was hunting," I mused as touched her little button. "Where was mommy while you two were having so much fun outside?" Lizzie understood but she wasn't sure what happened to momma and until I'd mentioned it she hadn't even thought about it. She drained her cup and wiped her little mouth and she smiled a little. I laid here against my chest and hummed like Leah did and my little girl shivered but scooted closer to me. She noticed that my chest didn't make noise like mommy's chest. She looked up at me and wondered why. She listened harder for fear that she had missed something.
"Daddy and mommy are different," I started to explain but I wasn't sure if it was going to make sense to her. "Mommy's heart is so big that it beats for the both of us. When you hear that boom, boom, boom, that's not just her that's me too." Lizzie smiled and cooed something. She cuddled even closer to me and fell asleep. I raised her hand from my chest and kissed her little fingers. There are so many variations of love and Lizzie and Skylar they both just require and deserve the stronger love of all. I heard the stairs creek as Leah came downstairs with Sky.
"See there they are not need to worry," Leah said as she sat down beside us. I noticed that she took a pick at the sippy cup on the table. She didn't make a mention of it. I think she was more concerned about getting Sky back to sleep. I leaned over to Sky and kissed her forehead and then pecked Leah on the cheek. "This moment by far is the best of my existence. Thank you Leah."
Leah's POV
There is truly such thing as the terrible twos! The girls weren't really two yet but they certainly looked like it and acted accordingly. Now that they were fully mobile they zoomed around at speeds they considered normal, sometimes without the help of Rose and Alice I didn't think I would catch them.
"Got one," Alice exclaimed and then turned the girl around. "It's Sky I think. Leah I told you not to dress them completely the same it makes it difficult to figure out who I'm looking at!" I looked over at the girl and knew immediately it was Sky. Skylar even though she was two had this old soul that reflected in her facial expressions at least to me anyway.
"You're right that's Sky," I stated as I walked over to the pair of them. "Skylar where's your sister?" The little girl bit her lip.
"Can't tell," she muttered and laid her head on Alice's shoulder. "Secret," she explained.
"There are no secrets from mommy, now tell me where!" Skylar and Lizzie both had the ability to read each other's thoughts but that's it. It was the main way the communicated with each other. Edward liked to sit down and listen in on their conversation and I felt like I was missing out.
"Outside … running like a puppy." I frowned and cocked my head to the side. What did she mean like a puppy?
"Like a puppy?" Sky nodded.
"Liz is a puppy. I can't do that." Alice handed me Skylar and we all went outside in search of my puppy daughter. I was hoping to find Liz just walking on her hands and knees somewhere. I was really hoping it wasn't what I thought it was.
"Hey Leah, I found something that I think belongs to you," Embry approached us topless. He'd put Liz in his shirt and carried her home. "You should cut her hair a little she looks like a little grey fur ball running around. At first she freaked me out until I realized what she was." I noticed the Lizzie was frowning at her sister and Sky looked like she was about to cry.
"She told!" Liz fussed.
"So, I needed to know Lizzie. I don't mind you running and playing in any form but I NEED to know where you are. Understand?" Liz sighed and I felt like I was being a little too hard on her. I handed Skylar to Alice. I thought now was the perfect time to bond a little more with Liz. It was not secret to anyone that Liz and Edward had a really strong bond, but this was something that we could share.
"So Elizabeth would you like to race?" I phased for the first time in since I had the babies and I had to say if felt pretty good to be back in my fur. I watched my young daughters bewildered eyes.
"Mommy's a puppy too!" Lizzie clapped and then hopped out of Embry's arms and phased. Embry was right she looked like a ball of fur. I listened for my daughter's thoughts and I was happy I could finally link with her like Edward could.
Hey little girl you ready to do this?
Yeah this is so awesome!
My daughter and I breezed through the forest; she did however trip over herself a couple of time. I was faster but I was sure that it was only because my legs were longer. We raced three times before trotting back home. She confessed to being able to do this for about a month and that she'd thought she'd had super powers. I assured her that it wasn't a normal thing. It was then that I realized that although the Cullen family was great they needed to know my side of the family and the legends that came before them. There was only one person that I could think of that did the stories justice and I hadn't talked to her for about a year. We phased back and headed back inside. I knew I was going to have to make a phone call that would open up the door to some drama I wasn't sure I was ready for.
