Chapter Sixteen
Rose
Rose was surprised to see that Carlisle had such a nice home, she wasn't sure what she was expecting, but it definitely wasn't this. It was modern, with white walls and dark furniture, but at the same time, it felt safe, warm almost.
Rose was currently sat on one side of Carlisle whilst Bella sat the other, Edward hovering close to her cousin. She was so pleased Bella found someone, but at the same time, she was envious of what she had. Rose wanted someone to look at her with the utter devotion Edward did, she wanted someone to hold her and cherish her, she just wanted someone to love her, mind reading and all.
The blonde watched as vampires came and went, praising Carlisle and giving their respects to him. He was clearly held in high regard in the vampire community. Rose liked him already; he'd already proved to be selfless, what with the whole "I'll die to stop newborns being harmed" fiasco.
The conversation flowed freely around her and Rosalie zoned out, she was finally safe enough that she didn't have to worry about listening to the thoughts of everyone.
Bella's rumbling stomach brought her back to the present and she tried (and failed) to suppress a smile. Surprisingly she wasn't that hungry.
"There's a buffet table around the back," Carlisle told Bella gently. Rose watched as Edward helped her stand and wrapped an arm around her waist. The envy hit again and Rose swallowed, trying to ignore it.
"Why do you need a buffet table?" She asked, confused. Vampires didn't eat – was it for decoration?
"There are a few humans here," Edward explained. That made more sense.
Edward and Bella disappeared towards the buffet table, but Edward returned not even a minute later, his eyes on Carlisle.
"I'm not going to disappear," Carlisle told Edward gently and his youngest progeny smiled back.
"Not on our watch you're not," Emmett said, his deep voice sending a tremor through her. Rose could honestly say that she had never met a man who set her on fire, whose voice made her shiver or whose voice made her want to kiss him senseless. It was infuriating. The only man she found attractive was the one man she would never pursue – he was too dangerous for her to even go there.
Rose couldn't help but look at the vampire in question, and she felt her nether regions give a throb. Not good. Emmett's eyes dropped to hers from where he was stood, slightly off to the side behind Carlisle. Her breath hitched as a smirk appeared on his face and Rosalie struggled to stay seated and not run for the nearest exit when his blue eyes landed on her. How could one man make her want to run and jump on him all at once?
Rose was drawn from her inner thoughts when Edward darted away again, a few moments later a crash radiated through Carlisle's home. Rosalie stood with a start, her eyes immediately seeking out her cousin. Rose watched in horror as Bella was lifted clean off the ground by a blonde haired vampire. She stepped forward to intervene – she wasn't entirely sure what she was going to do, but she wasn't going to allow her cousin to be tossed around like a rag doll.
