The bed was empty when you woke up in the morning. At first, it didn't occur that this would be strange until you remembered you had spent the night with Shouto, your boyfriend, and bolted straight up in bed. To your fear and disappointment, the room was just as empty as the bed.
You and Shouto hadn't been together for too long, and you knew he had some issues when it came to interacting with other people and showing affection thanks to his father- the number two hero, Endeavor. Still, you had been very patient with him and he had been opening up more and more, going so far as to ask you to spend the night, which had left you pleasantly taken aback. Waking up with no sign of him whatsoever was hurtful, but not exactly surprising; affection hadn't been his strong suit, but you really thought you had been helping him work past all that. He offered shy kisses in passing and often slid his hand into yours. Surely that must have meant something?
However, the empty room was hard to ignore. Maybe he hadn't really been ready to spend the night, or maybe you had snuggled too closely while you were sleeping and made him uncomfortable. Shouto was so reserved he tended to not speak up when things made him feel awkward and you knew for a fact he wouldn't wake you up- but he might text you!
The slight glimmer of hope faded away when you checked your phone to see absolutely no new notifications. You had told your friends the day before about Shouto's sudden and sweet invitation and they had overwhelmingly agreed to not bother or distract you; he wouldn't mind, you assured them, but you were glad for the uninterrupted time alone with him.
Disheartened, you settled back into the bed and stared at the ceiling. Now what? With Shouto gone and your mood completely shot, you couldn't even consider what to do next. Thankfully, you didn't have to.
The door creaked open as a well placed foot snuck between the jamb to prevent it from closing, followed by two arms fully stacked with plates delicately balanced on top of each other. Awkwardly shuffling through the door, eyebrows knit together in concentration, Shouto tried his very best to prevent the door from slamming behind him. This proved ineffective, and the noise made him jump ever so slightly, just enough to cause some of the plates to clink together before he turned around to see you wide-eyed in the bed.
"Y/N, you're awake." While most people found Shouto to be cold, you could hear the warmth in his voice. "I wasn't sure what you wanted for breakfast, so I made a little bit of everything." He gently started moving plates to the bed, encircling you with enticing smells.
Tears started welling up in your eyes from the sudden surge of affection you had towards the handsome person in front of you and also the guilt you had for earlier assuming he had left you alone. "Y/N! Do you not like it? I can try and make something else if you want."
"No, its not that!" You choked out and covered your mouth quickly. "You're just too sweet."
"Are you sick, then?" He leaned down to place the back of his hand against your forehead, concern etched across his face. "Are the smells too much, or is it this new cologne? I should have asked you before trying it on, I'm so sorry, if I had-"
On impulse, you had grabbed his shirt collar and pulled him into a kiss. You let go as both of you stared at each other, shocked. "Shouto, I'm so sorry." Not that you hadn't kissed before, but you had usually been incredibly vigilant of his boundaries and asking permission before doing so; it wasn't like you to be so impulsive when it came to Shouto.
"Well," he cleared his throat, using a hand to brush soft red and white hair out of his face. "Good morning to you, too." The soft blush on his cheeks worked to match the red in his hair, as he sat down to eat breakfast with you.
"Shouto, no, I didn't mean to-"
"Y/N, please. I-I liked it." He turned his dichromatic eyes away from yours briefly before meeting them again. "Really, you should be more impulsive."
Taken aback, you shot him a little glare. "ME? I should be more impulsive? Look who's talking!"
"Yes, you should. It's cute."
He wasn't sure how cute it was when a piece of freshly buttered toast hit him square in the face.
He stared at you in shock. "You're a monster," he said, covering his nose where the bread had landed and turning slightly from you. Even so, his hand couldn't cover the affectionate smile playing across his cheeks and reaching his eyes.
