1 Year and Four Months Ago, Rolanz, Yalts

Viola looked at the package. She didn’t think that anyone knew she was in Yalts. She had been following some gang violence and she’d currently been living from hotel to hotel. What was stranger was that the package didn’t have a return address or the name of the sender.

If anything was worse than that was the fact that she found it lying inside her hotel room, lying on her bed. It had been addressed to her, so her first guess was that the gang had found out about her and was going to try and intimidate her into silence. But no matter what is was that was in that large manila package, she wouldn’t let it stop her.

She ripped open the seal with her thumb, lifting the flap. She tipped the bag upside down, only to have layers of newspapers fall out carefully wrapped around one another.

“What the,” She started picking the papers up. Careful not to rip the newspapers, she unwrapped the package. Underneath five layers of old papers was a letter, handwritten. All it said was,

“Look at each date, read every story. If you are able to figure this puzzle out, I would like to meet you. Send your answer to the address below. If you are correct I will send you a new address on where to meet me. Signed, K.B.”

“This is definitely not what I was expecting?” Sure she wanted to know what in the world was going on, but she also wanted to know who K.B. was. So many questions were going through her head that she had almost no time to process them and register them.

She quickly went through all the dates on the newspapers. The oldest was from ten year ago, when the Rolanz sent soldiers to Azanaky to help with the civil unrest.  The newest was from when only a few months ago when the Rolanz government had sent new troops to destroy an Azanaky war base. Each of the papers had stories about the Rolanz-Azanaky War.

“I guess what I should find out first is what question I am supposed to be solving is.” She was definitely interested. “Gang violence can be put on hold for now.”
