Danny was ignoring me. Ever since his competition with Turner, he hadn't answered any of my texts.

I thought it might be better to give him Saturday to sort out whatever was going on in his head. Sometimes we were too much in each other's pockets and needed some space.

I didn't like it, but I understood. They got dark sometimes, his thoughts. I'd tried pushing him in the past only to have my attempts blow back in my face and cause more harm than good.

Through trail and error, I'd learned that it was better to just leave Danny to himself for a while. No matter how much I hated doing so.

But it was now Sunday night. And he was still ignoring me.

I was pissed.

I checked my phone only to find what must've been the hundreth message I sent him, still unanswered.

“Ugh! Goddamn extra drama queen.” I grumbled, throwing my phone on the bed.

“Who pissed in your cereal?” Matt asked, standing in my room's doorway.

“Dude, that saying only applies for when someone is in a bad mood in the morning.” I informed him.

“Not for me. Sometimes I have cereal for dinner.” He said.

I chuckled because if it was one thing I could count on, it was Matt never changing who he was.

We'd had some family quality time this weekend. Even if his idea of quality time involved annoying me to within an inch of my sanity.

I'd had lunch with Keanna and Danny after practice on Saturday. Danny had sulked in a corner and not really talked to either one of us. And Keanna had tried to bribe me with cupcakes to tell her what had happened on Friday.

As tempting as chocolate cupcakes might be, I'd valiantly resisted her advanced questioning tecniques. Much to her dissapointment.

After that, I'd spent the rest of the weekend with mom and Matt.

“Heading off?” I asked, sitting on the edge of my bed.

“Yes, you have been graced with my angelical presence this weekend but, alas!” he raised his hands dramatically to the heavens and closed his eyes. I resisted the urge to role mine. “I must now depart and return to the lands faraway, filled with bounty and babes.”

I snorted and didn't resist rolling my eyes that time.

“Drive safe will you, my liege. Mom will freak out enough as it is.” I said.

He waved his hand, dismissing my comment.

“I’ll drive carefully. Like I stole it.”

“Um, not sure that means what you think it does...” I said hesitantly.

“Regardless, I'll be fine. Fear not, brat, you'll see me again.” He proclaimed solemnly.

I got up and wrapped my arms around his waist. He hugged me back without a moment's hesitation.

Sure, he was annoying and sometimes I wanted to stuff his feet into his mouth. And, maybe once, when I was younger, I might've looked into getting him deported to ireland.

But, he was still my big brother.

“Take care, brat.” He said, ruffling my hair.

“You too, monster.” I said, batting his hand away.

He chuckled and turned around and left. I listened until I heard my mom saying goodbye and giving him a million recommendations about driving back to campus.
