It happened on a Tuesday. And just like before, there was no warning.

On Sunday, I fell asleep next to Danny like usual. I dreamed of huge wolves wearing pink necklaces around their necks that kept trying to eat my socks.
It was weird and made no sense. But it must've made me restless, because I woke with my arms pinned against my chest by Danny's wrapped tightly around me.

Not that I minded. I loved being held by him. I lay as still as possible. I wanted to enjoy that feeling for as long as I could.

But eventually the call of the morning was too loud to ignore. I slithered out of bed without waking him and made my way to the bathroom.

“What were you dreaming about?” Danny asked, pulling me back down next to him when I made my way back to the bedroom.

“Not sure. Something about wolves.” I shrugged.

“I tried to wake you up. But you were dead asleep.” He informed me.

“Hm.”

Morning kisses were always lazy and the silence in between filled with soft whispered words. Today even more so.

“Are you nervous about tomorrow?” I asked, tracing his bottom lip with my finger.

He kissed my finger and then leaned in to brush his lips against mine before answering.

“Yeah. I guess a little nervous.” He shrugged, trying to downplay his feelings.

“What did the lawyer say?” I let my fingers trail across his jaw and down his neck.

“He said he made a deal or settlement. Or some shit like that. Price's father agreed to drop the charges as long as we pay a ridiculous fine. And I'll probably get a few hours of community service.” Danny said and shook his head.

“How much is the fine?” I was glad that Danny could get away with a fine, but his family was nowhere near as well off as Price's.

“It doesn't matter.” He said and tried to kiss me.

I leaned away from him and frowned.

“How much Danny?” I insisted.

He sighed and floped onto his back, running a hand through his hair. “It will probably be a lot, okay? Let's just leave it at that.”

“And where are you gonna get the money from?” I propoed myself on my elbow and looked down at him.

He shook his head and looked away. His jaw was tense and he clenched his hands into fists. His eyes were fixed on the wall.

I took his chin in my hand and turned his head until he was facing me. “Hey,” I said, sprawling myself on top of him. “Talk to me.”

He sighed again and scrubbed a hand over his face. “You don't need to worry about it.”

“I want to worry.” I said honestly.

“It's more than what she – my mother – has. Even with what dad left her after he... the fine is more than she has.” He murmured.

“Where will she get the money from?” I asked, afraid of the answer. Because I thought maybe I knew.

“Dad left me something too.” His voice was low and soft and I had to strain to hear him clearly. “I told her to use it.”

“Danny-“

“Don't, Sean.” He shook his head again. “I fucked up and we're gonna be in debt because of that. Besides, I'm not going to use the college fund.”
