Cora awoke with a shock when she saw Roy Goode striding into the barn to grab some hay for the horses, the man hoarsely chuckling at her as she pointed her gun at him. After investigation, she found that her Aunt Alice had busted him out of jail; locking Whitey up instead. She had chuckled at that, before she walked out of the house and moved to help Roy with breaking the horses.
She hadn't spoken a word to Ana, she refused to apologise for her words; though Austin had already done so. He was always one to look out for his sisters, no matter what they had gone and done. Truckee had begged her to say something to the younger girl, but she simply refused. And she didn't know how long it would last.
The girl watched closely as Roy taught her his way of breaking a horse, taking mental notes so she could try next. She had wanted to get started on a horse her way, but the man had refused and said if they were do it today they were doing it his way. Austin had huffed in annoyance and stomped off, saying he was going to go search for the remaining horses that were still out.
She smiled softly as the man laid the horse down after a good couple of minutes of fighting him, the black horse not moving as Roy removed the loop from around her hoof. The mare sat up when she was asked to, before Roy slid onto her back; his fingers wringing through her mane. As the horse stood, the man let out a gasp before the horse began to buck and carry on as he asked her to walk on.
Roy managed to stay on for a little while as the black horse bolted around the edge of the yard, her head low and her back legs high. But as she went to go around again, he slid to the side and slid through the dirt; causing Cora and Truckee to cringe lightly as he groaned. Roy crawled to his knees as his mare ran to the other side of the yard, hanging her head over the side to look out at the land. Though after a few seconds, he stood again and strode toward the horse; holding his arms up to stop her from ducking away from him.
Once he got to her, he walked down to stand in front of her shoulder before launching himself up onto her back. She jacked up for a moment before Roy asked her to spin in a circle using his legs and voice, making her turn on her back legs in a continuous circle until he let her go forward. He clicked his tongue and asked her to canter on, which she did so gracefully. After a few rounds, he turned to look at the pair on the fence.
'Open the gate,' He yelled.
'What?' Truckee asked confused.
'Open the damn gate.'
The boy jumped down and moved to open the gate that lead to the open plain, watching as Roy and his new stead shot out of it and showed no sign of stopping. Everyone watched after him as he became a mere dot on the horizon, Iyovi chuckling to herself before saying, Goodbye Stray Dog, in Paiute. Cora smirked at the elders words, but kept her eyes on the horizon.
