"YOU WANT ME TO WHAT?" Lily stared at the two directors.
"Cry." Said Anthony Russo nonchalantly. "It's an emotional scene, we want you to cry."
"I'm not sure if I can." Lily wrung her hands nervously. "I've never cried on cue and even normally I don't cry that much."
"Hmmm, when was the last time you cried?" Asked Joe.
"That seems a bit personal." Anthony raised an eyebrow at his brother.
"Uh... like a month ago?" Lily said. "I twisted my ankle and it hurt really bad and I cried a little."
"Well it's not like we can twist her ankle again." Joe said. "...can we?"
"No!" Lily gasped. Joe chuckled.
"I'm kidding." He said. "Just try your best, youll get it eventually."
"Alright people let's take it from the top of the scene!" Anthony called. Lily got into her place while the crew did some finishing touches. She bounced nervously.
"Hey." Someone poked her shoulder. She looked up to see the other people who were in the scene. Alex, Mark, Benedict, and Robert were looking down at her.
"You alright?" Benedict asked. Lily shrugged.
"Yeah I guess." She said. "I just don't know how I'm gonna do this. I can't just cry on command. I hate crying in general."
"Well it's not that easy." Alex said. "It took me a while before I could do it."
"Leave this to a professional." Robert took a step forward, dramatically taking off his Tony Stark glasses and kneeling down so he was eye level with Lily. "Crying is an art. Think of everything that makes you sad. All at once. Then add what your character is going through. Really envision yourself in their situation."
"You sound like my acting teacher back at school." Lily giggled.
"He sounds great." Robert replied. "Now remember what I said and you'll get it eventually."
"Okay quiet on set!" Joe shouted. "Action!"
Lily did not get it on the first try. Or the second try. Or the third try. Or the tenth try. But on the eleventh try, Lily thought long and hard about everything. Her anxiety, her parents divorce, those sad dog commercials, and everything that Scout was going through. It was overwhelming.
Lily began to cry, full out sobbing. She said her lines and then turned to Alex and cried into his shoulder like the script said. He put his arms around her, rubbing her back and glaring at the others.
"Look what you did." He said as Steven. "She doesn't deserve this!"
"Cut!" Anthony said. "Alright Lily THERE IT IS! That was great everybody! Okay everyone let's take five!"
Lily took a shaky breath and wiped her tears but they kept coming. She gave a wet smile to the directors before rushing behind the set. The fake room had a door that she hid behind.
This is why Lily didn't like crying. She didn't know how to stop. Plus, she was an ugly crier and didn't need people seeing that. She slid down into the floor and cried, although she wasn't sure why she was crying at this point. Maybe Robert's advice was a little too good.
"Lily?" The door opened. "Ah shit. Hey! Hey, she's in here guys."
Lily hid her tear stained face as she heard people shuffle into the small space behind the set. She felt two people sit on either side of her and another person nudge her leg gently with their foot.
"You okay kiddo?"
Lily finally looked up to see her four scene partners looking at her, looking extremely worried. Alex and Mark sat on either side of her while Robert and Benedict was standing in front of her, Benedict was holding a box of tissues. Lily nodded.
"I told you I hated crying." She said shakily. "Once I start I can't stop."
"Aw." Benedict handed her a tissue. "That's actually adorable."
Lily hiccuped as some more tears rolled down her cheeks. She blew her nose and stood up.
"I'm fine though." She sighed. "T-totally fine."
"This is your fault." Mark flicked Robert's arm as they stood up too. "Your advice was too good! Look what you did to my fake sister!"
Lily tried to laugh but instead just continued to cry, her giggles mixed with sobs.
"Aw c'mere." Robert held his arms out. "I hate seeing you like this." Lily went right into his hug and he rubbed her back.
"Ugh this is so embarrassing." Lily said, sniffling.
"No worries." Benedict patted her head. "Now if the other guys were here, they'd cry with you."
"Oh god they'd be a mess." Mark laughed.
"Why aren't you guys crying then?" Lily said, her voice muffled by Robert's shirt.
"Because we're... men." Alex said.
"Yeah, manly men." Robert added, putting his head on top of Lily's.
"Sure." Lily said. "Mark, Ben, Alex, I know you two want to get in on this hug."
"Oh god I thought she'd never ask." Mark laughed. He and the boys joined in on the hug and Lily's cries soon stopped.
"There we go Lily-bean." Robert said, stepping back back wiping away the rest of her tears. "That wasn't so bad was it?"
"Lily-bean?" She repeated.
"Your new nickname." Robert said proudly. "Like jellybean? You're lily-bean."
"I still prefer Baby Banner." Mark said.
"I like Lily-bean." Benedict said.
"Get your own nickname I claimed it!" Robert said as they made their way back into the set.
"I like Lily." Alex said. "I'll just stick with that." The two teens smiled at each other.
"Where have you guys been?" Joe walked up to them. "We took five ten minutes ago! And- oh Lily what happened to your makeup? CAN WE GET MAKEUP OVER HERE?"
"Back to the grind kid." Robert said, putting an arm around Lily's shoulders. "I think you're fitting in just fine Lily-bean."
