I was stunned. Sarah was the last person I'd thought we'd loose.
Sarah.
So strong. So brave. Beautiful and giving.
I realize, only now that I've never truly appreciated her.
I tilt my head back, letting the howl free from my throat, the low-pitched wail piercing the air. Brendon joining in beside me, along with the rest of the pack. Even Kent, the few members of his pack, and John joined in to sing the song of anguish when you loose a loved pack member.
I refused to look at Sarah's body, because when a wolf dies it's never pretty, and I didn't want to remember her that way. I wanted to remember her as the person she was, with white blonde hair and black eyes that seem to look past everything and right into your heart.
I shifted back, grabbing a blanket off the ground that the Witch manifested to cover my naked body.
" Do you think you could get rid of the rouges? And do something special for Sarah?" I ask the Fey.
" With Aurora's help I might be able to do something better." She said, and turned toward the Witch, whispering something in her ear. Aurora nodded solemnly, and began to walk toward where Sarah lay.
Mark growled menicingly at her.
"It's okay." I said, and he backed away reluctantly.
" I can't save her," she said softly, but I can make sure she can rest in one piece."
There was a flash of blue light, and instead of Sarah's headless wolf, it was Sarah in her human form. Her long white blonde hair spread out around her head like a halo of light, her eyes closed. She looked beautiful and peaceful. A light blue mist swirled around her body. Mark shifted back, I wrapped a blanket around his sky-clad form. He wept shamelessly over his sister.
" Sarah," he sobbed.
I felt tears pricking in my eyes. I turned to Aurora who looked pale and about to faint any second now.
" Thank you." I whispered.
Breandon and Aaron began to dig, quickly, creating a hole large enough to lay Sarah in.
Mark lowered her down, brushing her hair back in a gentle caress before pulling away for the last time.
Once the hole was covered, rocks were added to the top of the grave, the Fey sent a soft white flame over the stone, and they turned to glimmering crystal.
" I call to thee, Lady and Lord, to watch over this poor soul and guide her into the Summerland, where she may rest in peace until time comes for her to be born again. God, and Goddess take this child, and bring her everlasting peace." Aurora said, her voice ringing loud and strong despite her weak appearance. The wolves echoed her words with a loud harmonious howl.
A soft blue glow pulsed over Sarah's grave before disappearing with a flash of white light. The grave was gone, and so was Sarah.
" Blaise." John said to the Fire Fey, " Can you help get rid of the rouges?"
" Gladly." Blaise said and sent a red angry flame over the unconscious bodies.
All those people, children, once innocent, were condemed to a short life of violence against their will, never to be seen or heard from by parents and loved ones. I'd never thought in my entire life that I would ever feel sorry for a rouge.
I looked at Brendon, who was standing tall and strong when I felt like falling, curly copper hair hanging heavy from rain, an air of dominance and power radiating around him.
Realization hit me like a ton of bricks.
Brendon. The person who saved me more than once. Who kept me standing when I thought I would fall. Who made me fell loved and allowed me to love. Who kept me alive, and cherished me every moment. Brendon was an Alpha. He was meant to be an Alpha.
My Alpha.
My lover, and savior. My strength when I need it most. Brendon was meant to be mine. And I was meant to be his.
