(Mikki POV)
I groaned as my phone buzzed, the vibrations waking me up from my sleep. I opened my eyes and reached over to the bedside table, squinting at the brightness of the sun shining into my bedroom. Looking down at my iPhone, I saw Calum’s name at the top of the screen and scowled as I answered the call.
“What, Cal?”
“Well, good morning to you too, Princess,” he chuckled, and hearing the usual warmth in his voice made me feel slightly guilty for being so snappy. “Sorry Cal, but you know I hate being woken up,” I whined, sitting up and running a hand through my hair. I hated mornings; I could stay up for hours but I always dreaded waking up before midday, and it was only nine in the morning.
“I know you do. Which is why Ash and Mikey made me call you.”
“Well, how can I help you so early in the morning?” I said, unable to hide the amusement in my voice. “Liz is giving Luke a lift to Ash’s in about fifteen minutes. And she was wondering if you wanted to be dropped off too.” I raised an eyebrow in surprise, usually when Liz was offering to give me a lift, she’d just walk across the road and ask me herself. “Any reason why she didn’t ask me herself?”
“Um… I don’t know. But can you be ready in fifteen? We’ve missed you.”
I couldn’t help but tear up a bit at what he’d said. I hadn’t seen the boys since the rehearsal four days ago, and they were leaving tomorrow. I’d been spending time working in the café my parents owned, going out a lot more with Joe and even hanging out with Sian, a girl in my Chemistry class who lived next door. I’d still spoken to Calum, Michael and Ashton, texting them every day as I always did, but if I was completely honest, distancing myself from them had been painful. I was just trying to come to terms with what it was going to be like when they were gone this summer.
“Cal, I don’t know –”
“Mik, we’re leaving tomorrow. At least come see us perform our set list for tour. We wanna see what you think.”
“Mikki!”
“Please come!”
I giggled as I heard Ashton and Michael in the background. Whilst Luke and I lived opposite one another, we lived about a ten-minute drive away from the other three, who could all walk to one another’s houses in about five.
Calum was right; I had to see the boys perform one last time before they went off to tour Europe and North America. If I wasn’t going to see them on tour, seeing the songs they’d be performing to the crowded stadiums was the next best thing. “Tell Liz I would love a lift to Ashton’s.”

“Luke?”
The blonde boy sat on my front porch looked up from his phone at the sound of my voice, pocketing it immediately and standing up. He towered over me as usual, there was more than a foot between our respective heights, something which I was very much used to. “You ready to go?” he asked, his voice huskier than usual, which I assumed was because he’d just woken up.
