Chapter 5

------Present Time------

“Grandma, how did Krism look like?” My young granddaughter asks.

“Kristen was a beautiful woman. She had black hair and a red eye. Her personality was like any other. I would have dark and gloomy days but she was always there to brighten it all up. If I hadn’t gone to that cafe that day, you all would not have existed. That is why I kept the cup she wrote her number on because: 1. I didn’t want to forget her phone number and 2. It reminds me of the day I fell in love with her. Which reminds me, Ophelia, we're going to visit her tomorrow. I want to tell her something and it's been a while since the last time we visited" I say.

"Mom, it's only been a week since the last time we saw her." Ophelia states. It felt like years than 7 days. I miss Kristen and I want to visit her everyday but I can't. Ophelia is the only one with a car but if I had to, I would walk all 10 miles to where she is now...

"It doesn't matter how long it has been. We will see her tomorrow, together." I tell Ophelia, my daughter.

"Fine. Continue with your story then" Ophelia says with frustration in her voice, almost breaking the plate that she was washing. She never felt...happy... when she visits Kristen. Sometimes it bothered me, sometimes I let it pass.

------Story Time------

"Hey Minx!" Krism says excitingly, a few seconds after I answered her call on Skype.

"Hi Krism. What's up?" I asked.

"Minx, I know that we barely met but I'm having a lot of problems with my family and-" I can hear Krism's voice crack, her excitement fading away quickly. She started crying.

"Krism? Are you okay?  What happened?" I ask her, worried. I had to wait a few seconds for her to calm down enough to speak.

"I-My parents are kicking me out of the house and I have nowhere to go. So, I wanted to..to ask if I could sleep over for a couple of days until I figure things out? I’m just sitting here at a bus stop." I was shocked. Why would her parents want her out? Then I had an idea.

"You can come move in with me. My parents kicked me out too but I got enough money to buy a house. There is a lot of space in my house for one more so you can come over." I told Krism, a little bit of excitement in my voice. That was my chance to have a roommate, to not be alone. I was more happy that it was Krism.

"Really? You would do that for me? I would love to move in with you. I'll be heading there now since I'm already outside with my backpack." I could hear a car pass by in the middle of our conversation. I told her my address and I was getting things ready for her arrival. I couldn't wait to see her again.
