Finn looked at the girl, wanted to dig deeper into her life. Mostly he wanted to find out if her parents had changed from what they used to be, or if they have always been unsupportive.
"Abby, tell me about your childhood."
"My childhood? Why that's so boring?"
"Not to me, it helps me know more about a person."
"Okay well, I've lived in Philly my entire life. I grew up knowing the city like the back of my hand. My dad used to take me on crazy adventures within the city. But that was only during the week. On the weekends, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. They lived in Upper Darby, and man were they fun."
She smiled, but it faded into a frown until the smile took over again.
"My grandfather would show me his favorite movies, and my grandmother would tell me about her time working on movie sets. She had worked on hair and makeup. She loved it so much, and she was always so good at it. They were meant to be, their mutual love of film brought them together so much. They pulled me into movies too. That's why I want to go into film so bad. I remember the first time I watched the movie Rain Man with him, I suddenly felt such an appreciation for it all. I was always way closer to my grandparents. I lost them 6 years ago, they both past away within 6 months of each other. It was the worst time of my life. But that's when I really started to appreciate the things they did. My childhood could basically be summed up with a few things. School was so fun, I had many friends who would eventually switch up on me in high school but that's beside the point. My parents were present, but they weren't a big part of my life, which I actually am okay with. And finally, my grandparents were the most free spirited and compassionate people, and they shaped me to be who I am. Well them and memes but whatever."
"Why are you okay with your parents not being a big part of your life?"
"It makes it a hell of a lot easier to run away from them. I don't feel much regret. I just wish my grandparents were her to call them out for not letting me follow my dreams."
Finn shook his head, realizing how independent she is.
"Are you good Finn? You seem to be zoning out..."
"Yeah I'm good. I'm just thinking about what you were talking about. I love Rain Man by the way, it's a great movie."
She smiled to herself and thought about the first time she watched it. She cried, she laughed and it became apart of her, figuratively of course. It showed the heartbreaking and raw reality of dealing with someone with a disability. If showed a open relationship between two brothers and the bond they can grow in such a short time. And then she smiled again thinking about how much he cared about hearing about her childhood.
"Finn, now I want to hear about yours."
