Maya's pov

-

"PEACHES!!" Riley basically shouted in my face. Her long clumsy arms flung around me and she hugged me tight.

I loved this. Reuniting with them all. It did feel like forever since I last was here and I couldn't wait to see the Bay Window.

"I've missed you all so much." I said and smiled. "You the most.." I whispered to Riles.

She smiled all dorkey and I hugged the rest of the gang, including the Matthews. "It's been to long! How you been?" Mr. Matthews asked.

"It's been great. New job, panting and trips. Met some new people as well." I chuckled at their excitement.

Riley's eyes light up and she throw her arms in the air to grab me. "BAY WINDOW, BAY WINDOW RIGHT NOW."

We ran upstairs. I felt home as Riley opened the door to her bedroom. I saw how it all was the same, it only missed the two of us in the bay window.

I know Riley is back here at her parents every weekend, but the room still felt like it needed us in there for a while.

She patted for me to sit down nwxt to her and I smiled. "How's Lucas and James?" She asked excitedly. "Actually, I don't know.." I chuckled.

"What? Why?" Her eyebrow raising. "Riles, Lucas told me he loves me." I said and she was shocked. Then a dorky smile appeared on her pretty face.

"Annnnddd?"

"I'm with James. But, I like Lucas. Maybe even love him." It just slipped out of my mouth. I was just as shocked as her when I said that.

I love Lucas?

"So have you talked?" Riley asked. I shook my head. "It's been wired and honestly I've kept my distance so I wouldn't have to talk to him." I answered.

Riley grabbed my purse and stuck her hand deep into it. She hold up my phone and her eyes was shining. "Call him. Now." She said.

She put the phone in my hands and pushed me up. "Now!" She laughed and I found his number and pressed 'call'.

Riley left the room and as I heard Lucas picking up. "Maya?" He asked surprised.

"Hi." Was all I managed to say.

"I didn't expect to hear from you."

"I didn't actually plan on calling either." I said before I thought over it. I realized how bad it sounded and quickly said something.
"Eeh. That sounded wrong. Sorry."

"It's okay.." he chuckled and I heard him sit down. "What made you call then?"

"Well..." I couldn't finish the sentence.

"Well?" Lucas said.

"Riley made me realize I should. Like, talk to the people I care about."

It got dead ass silent. I was getting nervous and bite my lip hard enough to draw blood.

"I miss you, Huckleberry."

"I miss you too, Maya. It's quiet around here without you." He said with a kind sounding voice.

"I like that.." i said

"Not that way.. well that way too, but I... I just, you know, I..." i stuttered.

Lucas laughed. "It's okay Maya. You don't have to explain me anything. I miss you too, both one way and the other one. So, called James yet?" He said.

"No. I don't think I will today. Maybe tomorrow."

I could imagine Lucas smiling now.

"Oh, okay." He said and tried to sound normal.

"I should go check on Riley then. Talk to you another time?" I asked.

"Whatever you want." He said and I chuckled.

"Bye." We said and hung up.

Riley brushed inside as soon as I hung up and put down my phone. "Soooo?" She asked and jumped on the bed next to me.

And then I told her everything we said. I also told her everything that had happened in Texas so far. She loved it. Like a litte girl getting that sparkly pink dress in the store window.

I've missed my best friend. I finally realized how much I've missed this place and them. The dorky Matthews family.

"Hold up now Riles. Tell me about you and Farkle." I said and she blushed. "How did it happen? Did he ask?" I said and she started to smile way to much.

"He asked. And it was lovely." She told me everything. Like everything. In details. Like always.

A week later

Lucas' pov

I woke up panting. I had a nightmare again. Jason was in it. I saw where he was. In a dark hole, tied up and crying.

I quickly gathered myself and checked the time. I have a really messed up sleeping schedule. I stood up and rubbed my eyes as I walked to the kitchen to get some food.

I saw a white little envelope at the door and picked it up. "Austin, Texas Police Station." I read.

I knew way to well what this was about. I've been gone from work since August last year and they probably want me to start up again.

I mean, sure it would be great to get my mind of things, but Jason is still missing and I don't know if I can handle it.

I do have enough money to skip work some more time, but I don't know how long the bank will support it.

I opened the letter. I was wrong. "Mr. Friar, we are hally to tell you that we have found some more trace in Jasons case. We may be able to get something out of what we might think is your sons left shoe. Further information will be added as you come down to the station later today. We do also want to discuss your job." I read.

I felt my tears start to press on and I needed someone to talk.

I grabbed my cellphone and called Maya.

"Hi!" She said surprised and happy. I started to cry, and I couldn't stop it.

"Lucas, are you okay?" Maya asked worried.

"They have found Jason's left shoe." I sobbed. I heard her sit up fast.

"That's a good thing, right?." She asked.

"Maya, they might be able to find him." I said and she squealed.

"Baby, I'm so happy for you. I said it didn't I!" She said and I chuckled.

"You did. Maya I cannot wait to just hug you again. I'm so happy I-... I'm sorry. I'm just a little overwhelmed."

She laughed.

"So am I. I just called you baby." We both chuckled. "But, I cannot wait to hug you either."

"Well, I'll not disturb you more. Talk to you later?" I asked.

"Yes, of course. Call me whenever." She said. "No, wait Lucas." She said.

"Yeah?"

"You made me so happy I forgot I'm at the airport now." She chuckled, "I'm in Texas in three hours. Pick me up?"

"Of course." I said.

Then she told me James was out of town when I asked her why she didn't want him to come. Wired, I saw him yesterday at the mall.

Then we said our goodbyes and hung up.

I love you, Maya Hart. I do. And now I'm gonna find my son.

I ran to the door, and for the first time in a long time, I put on my police jacket and grabbed my sign.

"I'm getting myself back." I said.
