Maya's pov

"Oh, my god. MAYA!" I shouted as I saw her covered in blood before she fainted. She fell down onto her side, her eyes still open.

I quickly sat down next to her, grabbing her face in my hands, trying to shake some life back into her tiny body.

"Don't you leave me now.." I said, trying to dry some blood off her face. "JASON! Where are you? It's me, daddy. You have to come." I shouted, still holding Maya in my hands.

I heard the door from our closet open up and a frighten Jason came out. As our eyes met, he ran up to me basically screaming.

"Daddy! Daddy! The evil man!" He cried so hard. I hugged him with my free arm, tighter than ever before.

"Yes, yes I know. But it's over know," I explained as several cops came in, putting handcuffs on the unconscious James, "..Mommy saved you."

Jason sobbed into my neck as I let tears fall down from my eyes. My heart was pounding so hard, it was as though horses were galloping inside my chest.

"We have to get Mommy to the hospital. I need you to come along too, with Grandma and Grandpa. Okay?" I said softly to my son, who was shaking of fear in my arms.

"No, I want my daddy!"

"You will, later. We have to make sure Mommy is still here." I said and told Jason to climb onto my back and hold tight.

I picked up Maya's lifeless body, almost breaking down because of sadness, but managed to get up and walking downstairs.

"We have to get her to the hospital, quickly." I said as I came downstairs, surrounded by police, firemen and the ambulance service.

My mom came up to me, shocked my the sight of a possible dead Maya and a hysterical Jason. "Take Jay and get to the hospital as well, I'll go with Maya in the ambulance." I said.

Her hand lightly stroke my cheek, before reaching out to grab Jason. He hold tight on me, screaming because he didn't want to let go. It stuck my heart.

"Jason, listen to me. You have to go with Grandma now. You're safe. I'll see you in just a bit. I love you." I said before my mom took him off me with force. He cried so hard, and I let tears fall down my cheek.

"It will be okay, Lucas. Both Jay and Maya are strong. Now, go. Don't worry about us." My mom said as dad grabbed Jason and walked away.

I nodded before looking down at a lifeless Maya Hart in my arms. "Mr. Friar?" A man called for me, and I snapped out of my thoughts and hurried over to the ambulance.

As I got inside and Maya was connected to all sorts of machines to keep her alive, I held her hand and kissed it. "You're okay. I'm so sorry, beautiful. It's all my fault. I should never had left you alone.. God, I'm so sorry. Please come back."

"Sir, I'm sorry, but don't get to high hopes. We can't get any response from her. Yes, her pulse is stabilizing, but it does not look like she's able to keep it up without the machines.."

-

I sat by her once again when she was asleep in a hospital bed. I held her hand, which they had washed so it was as pale and beautiful like it always uses to be.

Her knuckles had wounds from punches she had probably thrown at James. My finger lightly rubbed slowly back and forth on her soft skin, as I talked about us to her.

"You know, I do actually have the check from our first date in my wallet. And, and.." I said softly before I chuckled, remembering what I was about to tell her, "..I still think of the first day I laid eyes on you. You're pure beauty was more gorgeous than anything I'd ever seen before. And after a few days of knowing you, I knew I wanted to make you mine.."

I swallowed thickly, I was no longer able to hold my tears back. "What I'm trying to tell you is that I love you, Maya.. More than anything.. And I can't loose you. I should been there..never had left you alone with James still out there. God..." I said softly, sobbing in-between the sentences.

"My love, please don't give up. Come back to me.."

Two hours later Maya woke up. I had persuaded the doctors to let me stay with her passed visitors hours, and luckily I was by her side when she woke up.

Her dreamy blue eyes was big when she first opened them. She winced in pain as I said: "Maya?"

We our eyes met, thousand kilograms flew off my shoulders and more tears stream down from my heavy eyes. "Huckleberry.." Her voice said softly as I stood up to hug her.

"Thank God you're okay.. oh, you're okay right? Are you in pain?" I asked worriedly, my thumb lightly rubbing her cheek.

Her dry and chapped lips formed a smile. Oh, how wonderful it was to see that again. "Don't worry, I'm fine." Maya said and tried to put her hands on my cheeks, but couldn't do it.

"Maybe I'm in a little bit of pain, but nothing I can't handle." She admitted, and I helped her into a better position and kissed her hand.

She pulled me to her, carefully pressing her lips on mine. Love. Endless love. That's what I felt.

My watery eyes were so sore, and to know I had to break her heart with the awful news I was carrying, didn't make it any better.

"Huckleberry?" Her voice was so pure and careful, she knew I was being secretive.

I couldn't hold it anymore, my tears rolled my cheek and my breathing was sounded like an unless mess of stuttering. "I-I... Couldn't do anything..." I sobbed, and Maya let go of my hand.

A light went up for her. I saw her swallow before her hand traveled down to the non existent baby bump. A heart has never been as broken as hers at that time. Her jaw fell down as her dreamy blue eyes lost all hope it had ever had.

As her eyes teared up, her eyebrows furrowed and the first tear of many that night escaped her shocked eyes. "No...No.. No! My-.. My baby.."

I tried to calm her down, but she was going into a panic attack. "He.. He... He killed.. our baby. Lucas!" She cried out.

I quickly embraced her. "I know. He took her.." I whispered as Maya cried. But then she stopped.. everything stopped.

"Her?" She asked pushing me away. "It was a girl?"

My eyes met hers, they were screaming for an answer, even if it was the worst one of all time.

I nodded. "Yes.. A girl. A beautiful little girl." My voice trembled as I watch Maya going into a state of shock.

"You've seen her?"

"Yeah." I bite my lower lip.

Maya closed her eyes. "When will I see her?"

The words was hard for her to say. It was even harder to think of it.

"I don't know, Maya. But you will."

She opened her eyes, meeting mine in an instant. They were red, sore and filled with hurt, loss and grief. She teared up, finally reaching out for me again. "She's gone, Lucas.. She's not here anymore.." Maya sobbed into my neck.

And that's when life felt as though it hit a rock hard bottom, with no hope. That's when we lost each other for a while.

We'd lost her. Our own daughter. Maya's words made me realize that, and that I needed to get myself  together to help her.

But how's that even possible?
