I nodded my head, subdued by the lengthening list of incriminating evidence. I had tried to hold onto denial, but it wasn't like I could live my whole life without looking in a mirror. I was different, and it could be from just about anything. First of all, I wasn't sure how long I had been in a coma, especially considering my lack of injuries, though the general 'growing pains' feeling could have been the beginnings of atrophy from the coma. My eyes, that had been what really got to me, but the poison I was given could have done that- why hello, denial, guess I'm still trying to keep you around. In all honesty, my brain kept the rationalizing tirade while my heart knew, just knew that something was not. Quite. Right.
"Should I come with or-?" I hadn't seen a nurse or anyone in professional gear yet, or heard any intercom calls; not even footsteps, now that I thought about it.
"That won't be necessary," I spun around at the low raspy voice to see a very intimidating guy. His eyes were like black ink, pupil only discernable from the mercury that shifted within their depths. His hair was so black it was blue, and his skin was a warm golden tan, most likely from being outside a lot. What got me the most, though, was the fact that he was definitely taller and as, if not more, muscled compared to Vance.
I swallowed, the guy looking at me impassably while filling the doorway, "Uh, hello...?"
I glanced over at Vance, who had his head tilted a little down to the guy before facing up once more and looking over to me, my face showing confusion.
"Oh, uh, Drey, this is Ah- Darien."
I knew he was going to say something else, and it was only a matter of time before he did. I looked back to this Darien. I would definitely not trust my back to this guy until I knew him better, nodding and making eye contact.
"Nice to meet you Darien," I stuck my hand out, cuz that's just the kind of guy I am.
He took my hand in his, shaking it, "You won't think so for long."
I tried to pull my hand from his, but it was of no use and I began to go wild like a fox caught in a bear trap. He pulled me towards him then, but I jumped with it, hitting him in the face with my elbow, but he seemed almost unfazed from it as he brought my back to his chest, grasping my other flailing hand. I snarled, kicking my legs up before stomping at his feet, but he only shifted me higher so my feet wouldn't touch the ground.
"Let me go!" I squirmed as he adjusted his grip so that he only needed one arm, using the other to grip my chin and force my head back so we stared at each other- I scrunched my eyes shut. "Vance! Vance! Let go!"
"Vance isn't here," Darien grumbled at me. "Open your eyes."
"No!" I was lucky that my clothes were loose, because it enabled me to kick him right in the head. And he sure wasn't expecting that, since he loosened his grip enough for me to slide down and out of it, making it so he only had a grasp still on one of my hands. I ducked between his legs, making it hard for him to just snatch me back up and scrabbled for the door only to find it locked. "Shit!"
I knocked the back of one of his knees, but he rolled catching me with one of his legs before pulling me up his body so that my head was near his shoulder, arms and legs immobile, "Why are you even doing this!"
His only response was to grunt and roll so that I was under him on my side. One hand held both of mine, the other holding my chin so I looked right at him. He sniffed me as I glared at him, growling slightly as I growled back. I would have found it weird had I not been pinned to the floor by this freaking guy.
Our eyes clashed, his mercurial ones swirling and lightening; shifting. They called to me, trying to force something from me, but I had no idea what. His growl resonated, vibrating against my chest, his bright sharp teeth distracting me momentarily until his hand forced me to look into his eyes once more.
"What," I growled out, my chest rising and falling, "Are you trying to find? How much of a... Freak I've become?"
His growls became chuckles, "It'll be too bad if you aren't."
