30- Subterfuge

I woke up to the sounds of crying and screaming.

I scrunched my face, feeling the sun and knowing the moment I cracked my lids, the evil light would burn them. But, seeing as how I had something wet and cold rubbing my face, as well as an annoying buzzing sounding like my name, I felt there was really no choice but to submit my eyes to the torture.

Blinking, I instantly regretted the action, forgetting that I could have just turned my face away from it first. I blamed the prior situation for the current one... Which did and didn't make sense?

"Drey? Drey?" Some annoying voice loudly drilled into my ear. "Alpha, I think he's waking up!"

Now, not only did my eyes hurt and my brain feel sloshy, but now my ears were most definitely bleeding. It was only getting worse as the sound of screaming ratcheted up the closer it got, and additional voices began to accumulate, also somehow causing the crying to increase.

"Drey?" I hear Alpha Darien's voice, feeling a warm hand rubbing away the moisture on my forehead. "Come on, pup, wake up."

"Why does the world have to be so bright and loud," I couldn't help but groan at how horrible my surroundings were the moment I woke up. "And can't you leave the poor suffering people such as myself to their sleep? I feel like I was jumped on like a bounce house."

"As evidence seems to show, apparently you were," I swear, not even looking, the jerk was cracking a smile that I definitely was not in the mood to appreciate. Not that I appreciate it, but the joke. Yeah. Wait, what am I even thinking about?

"What are you thinking about?"

Eyes barely cracked, I turned toward the... Face, that was hiding a good portion of the painful light coming from the sun, "What?"

The shadowed person shifted to cover more of the sun so my eyes didn't need to squint as much, "You were rambling a bit about appreciating and joke, and then muttered, 'what am I thinking about'."

"I don't know. My head hurts from you smiling... I think," I went to pushing his face away, only to end up brushing my fingers down it because my hand eye coordination was skewed. I looked at my fingers, confused. "I missed."

"No, you really didn't," Someone else spoke from above us. "I have it from here, Alpha Darien. I've commandeered a few of your men to help with transport."

The being known as Alpha Darien stood up, opening up the bright once more, "Take care of him."

"I will so long as you shut that banshee up sometime this year," The lady... Doctor lady what's her name was as sarcastic as usual. "Why do I keep having to fix you up? Can't you just, I don't know, not get hurt for a while?"

"Less talking, more letting me sleep."

"Yeah, once I know it's safe for you to sleep," She was becoming my least favorite person. "Now, I'm going to do a bunch of things you won't like in the name of making sure you live a bit longer."

She was enjoying it too much; shining the bright in my eyes. I swear, if she asked me if something hurt before pushing on it like a kid poking another's bruise much more, I was gonna claw my way to china through her face.

"Well, at least you're now healing at an almost-normal rate," I only listlessly glared at her from the floor since my head hurt too much to move it still. "But that means you'll need enough calories to handle the process or else several unknowns could occur... Again, and I'm tired of having you stuck for interminable amounts of time in my domain."

"The feeling's mutual," I sneered in the direction of her face, too tired and in pain to keep my eyes open. "Now, fix me up, woman.... Doctor lady."

The intense pressure lightened after I added the other words. While out of it, I was still cognizant enough to know not to piss off the person that has the ability to heal me while causing the greatest amount of pain possible. Or not. So, best not to prod the bear doctor.

"Bear doctor, huh?"

I really have to stop talking outside of my head, "I forgive you this once because it was funny, pup. My name is Doctor Samson. You'd do well to remember that for next time, seeing as how you always seem to get hurt."

"Aye aye captain doctor Samson."

"Okay boys, take him away."

I woke up later to a tube in my nose and an IV in my arm. Both were sucktastic. On the bright side, at least I wasn't in the shewolf's domain, if the room was anything to go by. And by that, I meant Alpha Darien and my impromptu not quite permanent living arrangement.

The room's lights were dimmed, so I was able to see that the container of weird formula and the bag or saline or whatever it was, had only half the amount left. Looking at the small machine's monitor, I had been out for about four hours now.

Considering that my head was no longer filled with miners using picks to try and open my skull, I was feeling quite a bit better than before, but I was by no means one hundred percent yet. I could feel many of the bruises and general injuries on my body just by breathing or the simplest brush of material on it.

The click of the bathroom door surprised me, along with the man that walked out of it in only a small towel low on his hips, a smaller one being used to dry his dripping wet hair.

Heyo. Surprises! And now I must go to bed only to work overtime tomorrow. I was an update monster these couple days off!
