-Your Pov-
You smiled to yourself as you straightened out your hair, and then made sure to put on cologne. Today was an important day for you. Even though you normally hated Valentine's Day, this year was going to be different. Today, you weren't going to be alone and bitter like you had for every other year of your life. Of course, you had told yourself for that for years, and you ended up alone on pretty much every Valentine's Day, but you just knew that this year was going to be different. This year you didn't want to go after some random girl and be rejected by her. This year was going to be different because this year, you were going to confess to someone you cared about, someone you had cared about for years. Barbara Julie Dunkelman.
The two of you had grown up together, and followed each other around pretty much your entire life. You grew up together, and then had gone to the same schools, and then even had gone to the same college together. You had never dated each other, but for years you had wanted to date her. But, you never had told her you liked her, maybe even loved her because you were afraid to ruin the friendship.
She was wonderful. Barbara was hilarious, and then you even enjoyed hearing her puns. She was smart, and a wonderful person to study with, and she could be hardworking when she needed to be. Barbara took people as they were, and didn't want them to change themselves, and on top of that, she was kind and supportive all the time. Whenever you needed to talk to someone an have someone in your corner, then it was Barbara who you went to. The friendship she had with you had been one of the biggest sources of inspiration for you and had pushed you forward time and time again.
On top of all the emotional reasons there were for you to like Barbara, there were also the physical ones. Never let it be said that you didn't think Barbara Dunkelman was gorgeous, because you did. Her blonde hair was beautiful, and she took the best care of it, and then her eyes were always sparkling and full of life, and you loved them. You could sit and watch her be happy all day, seeing how much life was always in her eyes.
As you thought all of this to yourself, you made sure you looked as good as you could. You had no idea why this idea scared you so much. You had been friends with Barbara ever since the two of you were kids, and you could tell her anything, that was something she had promised you. The two of you were closer with each other than you were with anybody else. You and Barbara had been able to tell each other things you would never have told anyone else before. This should have been no different to you, and you forced yourself to calm down and then remember that this really was no different from telling her anything else.
The one thing that made you worried about doing this was that you were worried about being rejected by her. Rejection was never something you were good with handling, whether it was to something like a job, or even with a girl, and there were a lot of reasons you had to think why Barbara would turn you down. In the time the two of you had known each other, she had had a few boyfriends, none of them serious. However, that fact was something that kept you worried about telling her your feelings.
Your older sister Ally had smacked you when you had told her these regrets and worries, and then given you a pep talk which had boiled down to 'grow a pair' and then you had listened to her as she gave some motivational speech about going for the things you wanted in this life, and then you had realized you wanted a relationship with Barbara more than anything else in this world. And so, you had finally decided that today was going to be the day she knew about your feelings.
Walking down the halls of the office, you smiled when you saw Barbara and then walked over to you, and the two of you began to talk, and then you got a little bit lost in her eyes as you looked at her, and then you noticed as always that she was beautiful. Before you could get too much further, she snapped her fingers like she had just realized something in that moment.
" Oh, I wanted you to meet someone today. I wanted you to meet my boyfriend," she says, and then your eyes widen with shock, and you wait for her to joke about it. But, a few moments pass and then she still looks completely serious and then you rub the back of your head, and then nod a little bit.
" Oh, okay," you tell her, switching gears, trying to look normal. You have a lot of practice at this luckily, a result of meeting her other boyfriends throughout the years. Still, right now, your mind can't process more than single syllable words as of now.
Someone walks down the halls of Roosterteeth, and then Barbara flags him over, and then he smiles, kisses her forehead and then places his arm around her, and then she rests her head in his chest. " This is Trevor," she says. " He's the manager of Achievement Hunter, and yeah. Trevor, this is who I've been telling you about. This is my best friend (y/n)."
" Hey, great to meet you," he says, and then he reaches out his hand, and then you take it and nod at him numbly. " Barbara talks a lot about you." You nod again, and then they talk with you for a little bit, and then the two of them walk off after saying goodbye to you.
You stand there in a little bit of silence, and then you feel a pat on your arm, and then you look over to see Burnie. " We're doing a Valentine's Day podcast," he says. " I need you to be on it." You nod at him and then he walks off, and you have to take a few moments to blink tears from your eyes before you go to join them on the podcast.
( let me know what you thought. This is my reboot of the Barbara story. Hope you enjoy)
