Unexpected Changes: A Varian x Reader Fanfiction

This is where I ament  going to introduce the pupular moon flower AU. As to not be to similiar to other authors using this AU, I will be adding a few twists here and there in future chapters. Also in a few chapters the story will get a little more romantic and sad. Enjoy!*

You silently debated with yourself on whether you should head with Varian and Eugene. You were honestly rather curious on what secret Varian was hiding. But you also had your lady-in-waithing duties so you had to stay with the princess.

You opened your mouth to decline the offer but Cassandra put her hands on your shoulders and spoke for you. "You know what? That's a great idea! (y/n), we don't want you to stay bored through all these test." Huh . . .  Cass usually likes to have you around. Then it hit you. She still does'nt trust Eugene alone with the secrets of a scientists.

 Your assumpitions were affirmed when she bent down and whispered in your ear, "We can't have Eugene knowing about Rap's hair, and I don't trust him alone with whatever Varian has in store. Please watch over them for me kay".

Varian continued to look onto you hopefully with a large closemouthed smile. You smiled back and walked with them out the door.

Now that you weren't under the impression that you were going to see an almighty evil wizard, the outside of Varians home seemed a lot more welcoming. He led you and Eugene to a little shack and began rumaging through cluttered shelves.

"Found it!"

Your turned to see that Flyn was looking impatient. He has been asking about what Rapunzel has been telling while he was gone and he really wanted to have a secret to hold against Rapunzel and Cassandra.

"Yeah that's great Varatos but you mentioned something about a secret?"

"Oh duh, yes follow me." 

He opened up a hatch that led under the building and jumped inside. Flynn followed him and you were hesitant to jump in but Varian held out his hand to help you down, which you accepted. You jumped in and found yourself in a large underground cavern. Varian ran to a large sputtering machine that looked like it was holding a molten substance.

Varian jumped in front of the machine excitedly. "Suprise! I am going to suprise my whole town with hot running water!"

You gulped. The machine did not look stable. "Uh . . . Varian? Are you sure your machine is stable! I mean, what even powers your heating machines?"

"It's another compound that I discovered. One drop of it can power the machines for months!"

"Okay  . . . but how did you make it.

"Oh, that holds another great secret. Follow me." He motioned for you and Eugene to follow him down the cavern then turned to another lower level.  

"In here" You all went inside the sub-cavern. It was illuminated by a faint blue light that danced across the crystalized walls. Your eyes scanned the area as you walked aimlessly, until someone's arm went infront of your torso, preventing you from going any further. 

"Careful! You could've damaged it."

"Huh?", you looked down to see a captivating flower. It illumiated the area around it. The blue petals were long and rising toward the sky, almost as if it was reaching out to you. You couldn't help but to be comletely captivated by it. You wouldv'e stared at it forever is someone hadn't blocked your eyes with their hands and turned you around.

"You don't want to stare at it for too long either. It has weird side effects when you do." You were now in a slight daze, face-to-face with Varian. Once you snapped out of it you realized your situation and began to blush profoundly. Eugene took notice of this and pulled you two apart.

"Okay Varatos, do you mind telling me how you used this obviously magically dangerous flower to power a unstable water tank?"

"Seven actually-but don't worry. I did the math and they is only a .563% percent chance that anything could go wrong . . . I think."

"You thin-"

"-Anyways, to answer your question, I found the flower about a year back when I was looking for areas to store the water tanks. When accidently touched it, it sent me flying across the cavern." He pointed to a distinct Varian shaped indention in the back wall of the cavern. "But what I found out was that the flower releases a petal every few months which will not harm you. Then when I crushed it and the when I mixed it with some dihydrogen sulfide it turned into this." He pulled out a vile of a neon blue liquid. 

You stared at the vile of solution and asked,"That's really impressive and all but are you sure it's going to STAY stable?"

"Well of course, it has for this long." Suddenly, there was another tremor, which cause a few rocks to fall from the top of the caver. 

Varian looked back to where the tanks were. "Uh oh". He ran out with you and Eugene following close behind. He reached the tanks and his eyes widened when he saw the meter was at. The tank was bubbling and shaking and the tremors were getting bigger and bigger. Varian ran to the back of the machine and flipped a lever. The machine stopped but the tremors continued.

Your mind traced back to the princess and Cassandra. If the tremors contined like this they could be seriously injured during the tests. 

You turned to the your alchemist. "Varian! You said there were seven of these spread across town right?"

"Yes! We need to dismantle them before they destroy the wholw town!"

You looked at Varian with determination. "Alright let's go find them! Show me the way."

Varian nodded and grabbed your hand, leading you to the rest of the underground caverns,but Eugene blocked the both of you.

"Woah, woah, woah!v I know now seems like a nice time to try and be heroes but these machine are incredibly dangerous. We should get some more help until we make any crazy decisions. And (y/n), you really shouldn't do anything risky right now, especially with your state right now-"

"Just like how Rapunzel is in a collapsing lab tied down to a testing table?" 

Realization hit Eugene. "Oh no BLONDIE! Fine (y/n), go with the kid. But be careful" He turned to Varian and grabbed his shoulders. "Okay Varatos-". "Varian". "Yeah whatever. But please, watch over (y/n)."

Wow. You thought, you haven't realized how much of a big brother figure Eugene has become for you.

Eugene ran off and Varian and you continued into the cavern. But you weren't going deeper into the cavern. You were making your way back to where the blue flowers was stored.

*Heyyy. Sorry about skipping a day of updating. I fell asleep early.😂😅 Anyways, I will upload two chapters today since I missed out on last night. From here in out since I am branching from the shows main plot I will take requests for future chapters. Like when should Varian and the reader miss or what kind of angst or fluff scenes do you want ? I hope you like it for far for those who took the time to read it😊. Thankyou so much.*
