"Beep, beep, beep."

7:00AM, the face of the watch read on a fresh Monday morning. Time to report for council duty. Veretta Rose told herself, as she dragged her feet to the student council room.

Veretta Rose was her full name, but of course, she is referred to as Veretta.

She did not like that her resignation had to take one full week to approve. It was as though they were trapping her in a cage. Veretta sighed. As soon as her attendance was taken, she excused herself from the room and made a beeline for the canteen.

Veretta had managed to strike a few conversations with other people she knew regarding her return to school as she walked past them. After all, she had been getting sick really often, and this, for sure, was not the first time that she was sick that week.

"Goodness me, please get well soon. It is worrying to see you ill so often."

Honestly, Veretta was not concerned about that. She stood still, looking around for her. She sighed.

Veretta was worried and fearful that her lover and soulmate, Lycon Glacier would not show up. The girl with her beautiful big eyes which shone like stars, the soft touch of her skin, her smile which would instantly light up the day no matter how gloomy the sky is, and her laughter which was music to the ears. Veretta found Lycon adorable, and loved her from the crown of her head to the soles of her feet.

... and true to her fear, Lycon Glacier never showed up. It worried Veretta to bits, and her paranoia kicked in.

Has she fallen ill, and is thus, having a Medical Certificate to excuse her from lessons? She should be fine, right? It can't be that bad... right?

Veretta only knew that she had made her worry to obvious when a teacher came up to her and asked, "Are you okay? You look terribly pale and your arms are shaking."

"Pardon? Oh... uhm.... Yes, I'm alright. Just... really worried about something else. ... That's all." Veretta fumbled, giving a hesitant answer.

Despite not being convinced, the teacher let her off the hook. Veretta sighed and sat down on the bench which so happened to be behind her.

Veretta, listen to me. Lycon would never leave without saying goodbye. She is most likely- no- surely, on a medical leave! Okay? Just collect her work for her and pass it to her later.

She sighed once more.

...

Lycon Glacier loved her. She loved some others around her too. The only reason why she hang onto life, was for the sake of those whom she loved around her. She lived for their sake.

She found Veretta to be so beautiful, that she could stare at her soulmate for hours. Lycon ignored the hatred Veretta had for her body image, the brokenness she hid from many, and loved her nonetheless. Lycon did not only love Veretta, she also protected her, comforted her, listened to her.

Lycon was a knight, and Veretta was her queen. The knight treated her queen like she meant so much to her, because she really did. Lycon swore to protect and love Veretta forever, until death's will for the knight to die is too strong to fight.

The girl was lying in bed, listless and ill. She had come down with a high fever, so weak that she was unable to get up, lest visit the doctor. She sighed.

If only Veretta knew just how much I want her here, how much I miss her.

...

She could not focus. Or at least, not as much as she used to be able to. It was during her Mathematics lesson, and Veretta was struggling to understand and carry out the operations.
