" A l l y o u h a v e t o
d o i s s t a y . "Sitting on a counch in silence, Veretta watched her love sound asleep in the hospital ward bed.
Love, why did you do that? Veretta could not help but question, despite being completely aware of the reason.
Tenderly, she pulled a stand of hair which was covering Lycon's face behind her ear. Veretta got up and was about to leave her to rest when she noticed that her soulmate was stirring awake.
Moments later, Veretta felt a weak grip on her arm. She turned to see Lycon holding on with a look of fear in her facial expression.
"Don't go... please. Don't leave me. I don't want to be alone, please..." She begged, looking rather desperate.
Veretta sat back down without any hesitation, pulling Lycon into her arms in embrace. She did not resist, allowing herself to be in the arms of the person she asked to stay.
A tear slid down her face.
"I'm sorry, Veretta." Lycon apologised with a brokenness in her voice which was impossible to ignore.
The pain in her tone broke Veretta's heart. "Lycon, love. I forgive you. I'm just glad that you're still here."
So glad that you are still here. Veretta repeated as she held Lycon closer to her than before. She was in so much agony, it felt as though she was being stabbed again and again.
Another tear fell.
This one, however, was not on the same skin as before. Instead of Lycon, Veretta was crying. Strange, is it not?
"Why do you love me?" Lycon asked, angry and confused Why would you love me, a lost soul who is everything but normal in the eyes of society?
Veretta, with much effort, stopped her tears from falling to answer. "I don't know why, love does not work that way. It's the reverse. I love you, and so, I love everything about you." She ended with a saddened smile.
Lycon stared at the girl before her very eyes. "Don't you hate me?"
Internally, Veretta was pained. How could you doubt my feelings towards you? Yet, she knew it was not Lycon, but her illness that made her feel the need to doubt.
Veretta laughed light-heartedly and made a casual comment, "How can I hate you, when I love you too much to stay mad at you for even an hour?"
Heh, how nice.
There was a pause before one of them spoke up to break the icy silence.
"I'm irresistable, aren't I?" Lycon joked with a sly smile. Veretta simply replied with vibrant laughter.
Now this is Lycon, the girl I know and love, from the vast ocean to the endless skies. Veretta told herself.
Her laughter was music to Lycon's ears. Upon hearing it, her sly smile turned into one which was genuine and pure. To be able to make her soulmate laugh, was something that always brought her joy.
"Yes, Lycon. You are irresistible. In my eyes, you're also beautiful, adorable, talented and so much more. Because I love you." Veretta finally spoke after calming herself.
Silence settled in once more, and it started to become uncomfortable.
Veretta sighed. "Lycon...?"
"Yes, love?"
Tears broke out and streamed down her face, but yet no sound escaped her lips. "I love you, okay?"
Lycon wore a faltering, saddened and weak smile, "I know... okay."
