Chapter 13: Passage of time

"Kaiya, what's with the long face?" Takeru approached a little girl, sitting by the porch all alone in her pink tiny dress.

The little girl looked up, a pout in her face yet she tried to look tough and unbothered "I'm just shy to hang out with all these people."

Takeru sat next to her, patting her almost brown hair that would turn silver once the sun had touched it "Just like your mom when she was a kid. She used to be very shy. Won't speak a word unless it's completely necessary."

For a moment, the girl's eyes lit up but she hid it behind her frown.

"Come on, smile!" Takeru pinched her cheeks "Is it because of the 6th hokage? Don't worry, he will come."

"He will not come!" Kaiya turned her back to Takeru, raising her voice "I know he won't!....he only cares about his works....he won't come..." With her voice trailing off, her sadness could not be hidden.

Takeru was about to comfort her once again when a little boy appeared in between them. He lifted up his sister's chin, lecturing her "Smile. Don't show that face to our visitors."

Kaiya glance at the people inside thier abode then shook her brother off "I will do what I want Kazuo! Leave me alone! hmp!"

"Fine. Stay ugly." Indeed, a man of few words. He glance at his sister one last time before running back inside.

"I believe in hate at first sight..." The little girl glare at her brother's back.

"Huh?" Takeru watched, amused.

"Hatake Kazuo proved my point."

"Hey! Kasuno! If you don't wake up in the count of 3, Gai will give you a mouth to mouth resurrection!"

At the mention of her name and the loudness of Hanare's voice, Kasuno shoot up from her table, surprised.

"What were you dreaming about that made you drool?" Inoichi chuckle, fixing a bunch of paperwork on his table.

Kasuno tried to remember but she couldn't. All she knew was she'd seen Takeru...

"Let's head to the hokage." Inoichi interrupted her thoughts "We have some interrogation to do."

4 days and Kakashi still hasn't come back. Kasuno slump behind her desk, tired. She and Inoichi just finished a session of 3 criminals. Hanare sat on her desk, eating.

"I wonder what Kakashi's up to...." Kasuno mumble, looking out the window.

"You've been working hard, you don't even know what's up with him." Hanare put down her steam buns "Are you really his girlfriend?"

Kasuno narrow her eyes at the girl "I told you the whole story didn't I? And you said yeah, Kakashi loves you. But it's not over. I still have a chance." she mimicked her.

"Hmp!" Hanare scoff "Well, do you want to know where Kakashi is?"

Kasuno's eyes lit up "Do you know?"

"I heard from the villagers and Sakura." Hanare cross her legs "This Uchiha had left the village. Kakashi and some genin went out to get him back."

Kasuno's eyes widened and she was sent standing on her feet "Are you sure?! Kakashi...."

Just thinking about how Kakashi feel sends waves of pain in her chest. She knew he would blame himself. He tried so hard to keep Sasuke in the village yet this happens...
