☯Words of Wisdom - Iwakura Lain ☯

“If you’re not remembered, then you never existed.”

- Iwakura Lain, Serial Experiments Lain

What's the point of living if you can't leave a mark of yourself on the world? No matter how small and insignificant the mark, you need to do it. To prove you were here. To prove that you meant something to someone or something.

        Take my friend, for example.

We were in class one day with two others talking about superheroes. The two were excited and were always asking me opinions about it, so it was really a three person conversation. My friend, though, was out of it most of the time, just listening to us talk. It was like the two forgot that she was there because she didn't speak up and say something. I constantly tried to include her in our discussion, but she couldn't really keep it up by herself.

The rest of the day, she was upset with me.

Later on, I received a text from her. She told me that the felt like an outsider and that she didn't belong. She felt as if she were being pushed away because many people were talking to me, not her. Listen, if any of you readers have been in a situation like this or similar to this, it's your own goddamn fault. Look you guys, making friends and being a prominent part of a group is difficult, especially if a lot of your friends tend to be loud and rowdy. You need to speak up and be more active with your friends, or else your friends won't really be your friends.

This quote, to me, says that people need to notice you and are willing to like you. This doesn't mean to conform to what they want or expect from you, but you need to be yourself with the people that really matter. Those people would never forget you, and even when seven billion people in the world don't know that you're alive, you'll have those people, those people you love and who love you back, who know that you are.
