Steven scratches his bitten-nails along a stubborn piece of tape, scrunching his nose up uncomfortably as they glide along the wall it's stuck to. He scratches at one corner, gives up, and tries another. It comes clean, and with a sense of accomplishment, he adds it to the growing tape ball in his other hand."This is awful," he says out loud, hunting for the next piece. He finds it, barely a few inches from the last one. "What did you do with your old posters? Just tear them down?"
"I thought the tape would come with them," admits Anthony, who's working on the opposite wall. He, too, has a significant amount of tape in hand. "And when it didn't- I figured I'd get it eventually."
A soft sound as the adhesive is removed, taking with it a few flecks of paint. Steven furrows his brow, but doesn't fuss. The new people will probably paint over it.
"I mean, you're not wrong," Steven allows with a hint of humor. He scans the wall up and down, and no tape immediately jumps out at him. He's sure there's more, but peeling tape is a boring task, and he doesn't have the best attention span.
Steven joins his tape ball with the one Anthony's holding and wraps his arms around his boyfriend's waist, peering around the taller's shoulder to watch him work. "You missed one," he hums, pointing towards a part of the wall Anthony's already finished.
"The new people can get it," Anthony says dismissively, moving on. Steven shuffles awkwardly behind, still holding onto him. It's more to annoy him than anything, but Steven would be lying if he claimed he didn't enjoy hugging Anthony all to himself. "Paint over it, or something."
"The realtors are gonna sue you," Steven says, fake-cross. That gets a snort out of Anthony, who shakes Steven off of him. Steven let's go begrudgingly.
"Then, as my loving boyfriend who I'm living with, because I love him, you can help pay for tape damages." At Steven's horrified gasp, Anthony cracks, laughing and shaking his head. He shakes his hand and drops the ball of tape into the trash bag they have hanging against the doorknob.
"I knew this was a bad idea," Steven says, and whines dramatically when Anthony hugs him, in such a way that he can't wriggle free no matter how much he pretends to try.
"Nah," says Anthony, nuzzling his cheek patronizingly into Steven's curly hair and ignoring his boyfriend's struggles. "I think it's a great idea. I think it's the best idea we've ever had."
Secretly, between pinching Anthony to free himself and running down the stairs, grabbing a pillow from the packed boxes below, and throwing it at his giant of a man- Steven agrees.
