I wake up more happy than I've ever been. I got to get to work early today so I get ready. When I'm finally finished I leave a note wishing Alec a wonderful day, since he is still sleeping.
...........................
I get to work early to find everybody looking very.... sad.
Sarah, one of my coworkers speaks to me, "Mr. Jones would like to speak to you." She mutters, with a very sad look in her eyes.
I nod, and now I'm getting very worried.
............
I open the door to his office to find him looking out the window.
"Quite rainy today huh?" I say trying to lighten the mood.
"Indeed it is, please take a seat Rebecca." He says in his deep voice.
.....................
I take a seat and fold my hands in my lap, looking down at the floor.
"I'm very sorry, but I'm afraid this company needs to let some people go." He groans.
I sigh... "I understand, thank you for having me for the time." I stand up, years falling down my cheek. Then I walk to my office gather my things, and run out. I run the whole half mile home and slam the door when I get in. I notice Alec has already left for work.
I run to my room and shut the door and lean against it, and break down. Why does life has to have so many struggles? Can't life just be kind for at least a few months? What am I going to do, Alec and I can't live on just his paycheck... not for long anyway.
Winter is almost here, that means we need more money to get through the cold.
I lay on the couch, thinking of all the bad things that have ever happened to me.
Mama and Papa always told me when I was younger that I would grow to have an amazing life, but now I'm not so sure. I've had so many bad things happen to me since I was born. It doesn't look like that's stopping soon. I soon drift into a deep sleep full of nightmares

Alec's POV
I get home to find Becca sleeping in a pool of tears, something must've happened at work. I put a blanket on her and start making chocolate chip pancakes, her favorite.I'm almost finished when I hear her get up. "Alec?" She called.
"I'm making your favorite." I beam.
Her turns around and her eyes light up for a second, but then she remembers what made her so sad. Her eyes turn dark and gloomy again.
"Bec, what's wrong?" I ask
"My boss let me go... they are loosing to much money." She sobbed. I put the last pancake and run over to her and wrap her in a big hug.
"It'll be okay Becca, I promise you." I whisper into her ear.
She hugs me back tightly, her tears falling onto my white tee-shirt.
"Let's eat those pancakes okay?" I spoke, smiling.
"Okay." She replied, with a half smile.
She barely says anything as she eats.
Luckily tomorrow is the weekend and we can spend it together.
..........................................
Rebecca's POV
Alec somehow always make me feel better. I don't say anything while eating eating the scrumptious chocolate chip pancakes, but I do feel a bit better.
After dinner we clean up the place a bit.
Then there is a sudden knock on our door, which reminds me of when the Nazi's knocked on our door. I look at Alec and he understands I'm scared he points at his bedroom. I run in very quickly and hide in the closet, I have a feeling it's bad.
...........................
Alec's POV
I open the door to see a German man standing on the doorstep, looking... angry.
"Does Rebecca Alder live here." He roared.
"Who are you." I ask suspiciously.
"Former German Officer Hans Schultz." He answers looking past me into the house.
"I can tell your not Jewish.. or if you are you must be a half blood." He says.
"I'm sorry I don't know a Rebecca Alder." I respond.
"If you are sure, I have some unfinished business with her, nobody gets away from me." He booms.
"I'm sure, goodnight." I say and close the door, and lock it.
..................
Just in case he is looking through the windows I continue cleaning up. About a half hour later I shut the blinds, what I normally do anyway. Then I go to my room and shut the door.
"Rebecca, you can come out." "It's safe now." I stated.
She comes out looking terrified, she is shaking.. poor thing.
"It was a former German soldier, it looked like he wanted to kill you." I stammered.
She sighs, "I just want to go to bed, I want to be alone right now.".
I nod as she leaves the room. Maybe it's best she had a little space right now anyway. I decide to head to bed myself.
Becca's POV
I can't believe it... a German soldier wants to kill me! The war is over now... I thought I would be safe now... especially since I am in America. I guess not. I better get some sleep, I think that's what I need after the terrible day I've just had. I think I just need some alone time, something I have not had much of lately, which is both good and bad.
.....................................
I wake up and stretch, temporarily forgetting about everything that happened yesterday. I go to open my blinds but instead scream. I had forgotten to close them last night. Now staring at me through my window was the former German soldier Hans Schulz.
