Moving from Illinois to California was a huge change. All my friends and family had to be left behind. The day I left, I cried so hard. I miss all my friends, especially my best friend, b/f/n. She was always there for me, even in the hardest times. Now I had to start from scratch, from the beginning.
"You got your schedule, right?" My mom asks me walking me to the principals office. "Yes mom! I already told you. And I have a picture of it on my phone." I remind her, annoyed. "I just don't want you getting lost. There should be someone guiding you to all your classes giving you a tour, okay?" I nod my head sitting in one of the seats in the front office. She goes inside the principals office and spends some time in there.
Once she gets out, she kisses me goodbye. "Be good. Don't get into trouble." She smiles and walks out. The principal walks up to me, "Hello Ms. y/n. Welcome to our amazing school." (legit forgot the name of the school. Did they even mention it?) "So today, Mr. Martinez will give you a tour of school grounds. Very trusting boy." He reassures me. "Anyways, He should be here any minute now. I hope you enjoy your time with us here." He shakes my hand walking back into his office. A young boy walks in, he walks towards me.
"Are you y/n?" He asks me. All I can do is shake my head. "Alright, well. Um, you ready for the tour?" He asks rocking back and forth. "Sure."
Walking down the hallway, almost done with the tour he turned to ask me, "Do you want to sit with me and my friends at lunch today?"
"Sure! I mean, yeah. Sure, that'd be cool." I say trying to act cool.
"Ok. Meet me after 5th period?"
"Yeah, sure." I smile at him
————————————————————————10 minutes before 5th period ended, I was so anxious. Hopefully he doesn't have a girlfriend. Or a girl friend. I guess I was zoning out too much, because the teacher asked me what the answer was to number 4. I skimmed it quickly and guessed B. "Wrong!" She shouted. "Next time, pay attention in my class Ms. y/l/n." Oops. "Yes ma'am." I reply. With that the bell rings. As I rush out of class I run into Ruby. They boy from the tour.
"Ready?" He asks.
"Yes!" I smile.
"We usually sit right over here. But my friends don't really know your coming so," He trails off.
"Are they gonna be cool with me sitting with y'all?" (Sorry, I don't know if you use "y'all" but I'm from Texas🙂)
"Yeah. I think. They should." He says eating his lunch. I pull out my sandwich my mom made me. School lunch sucks.
"Hey Ruby!" A girl says. "And girl?" She says looking at me.
"This is y/n. She's new to town." He tells her.
"Oh. Nice to meet you, y/n. I'm Monse. And that's Cesar." She says pointing past me. "And that's Olivia." She points to another girl walking over here. They introduce themselves to me, and they all sound very nice. I'm glad I made some friends. Then, another boy comes and sits with us.
"Who's that?" I ask pointing to him.
"Oh! I forgot! That's Jamal." Cesar tells me.
"Of course y'all forgot me! You always do!" He snaps at them. "I'm sitting somewhere else." He protests standing up, waking off.
"Don't worry. He'll be back." Ruby tells me.
"He doesn't have any other friends." Monse laughs. "Do you want to come over tonight? Maybe all of us could hang out? Get to know each other. You know!" She tells us.
