Today was my first day at Mrs. Rose's dance studio. I guess you could say I'm not the best, but not the worst. Today she let me practice along the barre so that I can get the hang of things, but I had different ideas.
I used to live in Georgia, but my parents got in a divorce. So my mom took me to live with my grandma and grandpa in California. I had to leave my brother and my father. I didn't care so much about my father. He was such a rude ignorant person, but I did care for my brother. My father would always try to separate me and him from each other, saying he was a bad influence. My brother, PT, was 19 years old. He was the leader of a gang that well, almost everybody knew in Georgia. But even at that, he was still my brother, and was a different person when it was just us. He had a soft spot no one else knew about. He would always protect me.
Last month, my brother got caught shoplifting. He had a hearing just yesterday before I left. But I couldn't stay, I just stayed long enough to say goodbye. My father said he would stay there in Georgia, but my mom wanted a new start in California. So on the plane ride, all I could think about was PT. I wish he could have come.
As soon as we arrived, we went straight to my grandmas house and got settled.

"My goodness gracious!" She said coming in for a hug. "Look at that long hair flow!"

"Thanks." I told her unenthusiastically.

"Come in, come in! I made some food! Hot dogs and pie! And if I remember correctly, that's you and your mom's favorite, right?!" She say throwing up her hands, come on! Get settled!" She's obviously very excited, so I guess I should try and act like that too.

"Great!" I say fake smiling as I walk in. Her house smells of cigarettes, perfume, and for some reason Fritos.

"Take a left down the hallway and the room with a golden doorknob is yours!" She tells me.

When I walk into the room, the smell of cigarette follows me. I think she might've tried to cover it up because it also smells of Fabuloso and Febreze. The bed is nicely made and there's a tv that doesn't work. I plug my phone into the outlet and go back to the kitchen.

"You'll be starting school tomorrow, baby girl." My mom says pointing a finger at me. "It's right across the street, you can walk."

"I already got you enrolled." My grandma says.

We sit down to eat the dinner my grandma made us. Afterwards, it's only 10 o'clock, but my mom makes me go to sleep to get ready for my first day tomorrow.

Going to school was much more boring than I thought. I expected fights and, more cuter guys, I guess. So walking home, avoiding my mom and grandma, I took the long way around. Turning the corner I ran right into a group or teenagers, around my age I should think. I fell to the ground and landed on my hands to soften the blow. So did the other guy I ran into, but he just straight up fell. I felt bad, but I still laughed at him a bit.

"I'm sorry." I chuckled, "Are you okay?" I asked standing up, wiping the dirt off my jeans and hands.

"Am I okay?" He asked, still on the floor. "You're the girl, I should be asking you! How are you even standing up!?" He asked sitting down.

"I'm a strong person I guess. An even better girlfriend." I say bitting a lip. I guess there is cute guys in this town. "I'm y/n."

"Ruben. And that's Monse, Cesar, Jamal, and Olivia." He told me.

"Do you need help getting up?" I questions holding out my hand.

"No. No! I got it." He reassures me struggling to stand up. I laugh at him. I then introduce myself to his friends. They all seem nice. I can notice right away Monse and Cesar have a thing for each other. Although they might not admit it, I was quite observant. We ended up walking to the nearest coffee shop together. It was nice. When they told me they went to the same high school as me, I wondered how come I didn't see them. I probably didn't pay attention, I was on my phone the whole time.

"I really enjoyed spending time with y'all guys. But I gotta go. I have class." I tell them grabbing my stuff.

"Already? What kind of class?" Ruben asks me.

"Stop being so nosy, Ruby." Cesar tells him.

"I though your name was Ruben?"

"Well it is. But-"

"Call him Ruby." Jamal says. He loves it.

"Well if he loves it, then I should obviously say it more often, huh?" I say trying so comb back my curly hair into a bun. Everyone laughs but Ruby, stays bright pink. "Talk to you later!" I shout walking out.
Turning the corner, I can feel someone walking behind me. Although their stale a quite  and discreet, I hear them. I quickly turn around, pinning them to the ground.

"Ruby! What the heck are you doing!" I cry getting off him, but he stays coughing on the ground. I help him up. "Where you trying to get hurt!"

"No! I just wanted to see where you where going!" He tells me.

"I'm going to my dance class." I defend myself.

"Ok ok. Don't need to get mad." He says putting his hand up. "Can I go with you?" He asks getting closer.

"If you want. You'll probably just be watching me look terrible." I say shrugging.

"No. I bet your an awesome dancer!"

There at the studio, I told the front office my name and the lady told me my mom had already signed me up. I told them that he was my brother and needed to watch me while I was in class. They agreed since it was my first day.
My teacher, Mrs. V, told me to stretch along the barre for the day, but I had different plans. I wasn't just going to make Ruby sit there watching other girls dance. So I had to make me more, possibly impress him, a bit. I practically beg her to let me dance after stretching with the class, she finally gives in.

"Looks like Ms. Y/n here wants to dance." She tells the girls. I look over at Ruby and wink,I think he notices because he smiles back.

"So ladies!" She claps her hands. "Across the floor! I want 2 chasés, step, grande jéte, step, arabesque, then end in 4th position plié." She demonstrates it once. "Since y/n, here, begged me to dance, she can be first."

I roll my eyes at her, "piece of cake." I told her. Landing the combination, perfectly, I might add, I heard someone clapping. Looking over, it was Ruby.

"Excuse me, young sir. Please be quite, or leave." She tells him.

The way home, I was tired from class.

"Hope I didn't bore you too much." I tell him.

"No! You were awesome! I've never been in a ballet class before. You know, you where the best one in there." He tells me.

"Really?" I ask him. He nods. "Well, this is my house, and my moms probably gonna kill me for not coming home after school." I laugh.

"Hope we didn't get you in trouble. I'll see you tomorrow?" He asks.

"Of course." I say leaning in for a hug, but I guess that lead to something else. Because instead of a hug, he ended up kissing me straight up.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't even ask." He says looking down.

"No! It's fine, I've been wanting to do that all day." I say pulling in again.

Sorry this took me forever! I actually dance ballet, lyrical, and contemporary, and recently had competition, so my schedule was super busy! But hope you like it. (If you find any grammatical errors, please tell me so I can fix it!) This was a request from -sleepingwithsilence
