"An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that its going to launch you into something great."
Chapter Ten
~Angel's POV~
The day went by slowly, which in a way was a good thing.
Once Alice got her arm patched up, Rick called us all to a short meeting. Today was the day we would infiltrate the prison. After explaining the Alice situation, and having her speak with Rick herself, he seemed to be more relaxed about letting her stay. He thought the more numbers the better. That was true, but I still didn't have the best trust in her. Either way, we had a mission to do and I couldn't let Alice get in the way.
"Alright, here is the plan. Glenn, I want you to be up in the towers covering our backs. Angel, Me, Carl and Daryl are going to be the ones who clear out yard beyond this one. Maggie and Alice, I want you two to be ready to fend off any walkers get past us or ones we can't handle ourselves. Lori...I want you to stay with Hershel at the gate."
Everyone nodded, it seemed like a solid plan.
I made sure I had my crossbow in hand, my knife in my pocket and my pistol reloaded. Carl was standing next to me and I could suddenly feel his hand graze my own. I cleared my throat and acted like I was checking my crossbow so I could pull my hand away. I could hear Carl snickering and sharply turned my head to glare.
I looked over to see Alice boring holes into me, awkward. I shifted my weight and waited for Rick to give the go. The sun was just below the trees and the walkers were all surrounding the fences like an audience ready to watch a show.
"We need to do this fast and easy, no trouble." He gave Glenn and Maggie a nod and they threw open the second fence. Shot were immediantly fired as we sprinted into the area. A bullet whizzed by my head and bounced off the fence a few inches from me. I looked back and saw Glenn holding a shotgun at my head. he wipped it away and his eyes were wide.
"Sorry." He called out. I glared at him before having to fight off a couple more walkers. I brought out my crossbow and sunk an arrow into the head of a girl. My arrows were deflected by a Biter in an armoered shirt. He had a face mask on and the shield was only making matters worse for us.
"Why wont you just die!?" I called to it, shoving to the floor before sticking my knife under the shield and into its brain. Soon the smell of gunpowder filled the air and silence settled over us. Carl grinned at me and I took deep breaths. I looked over the dead bodies, all inmates except for one. She had a bloody flower dress, not a prison outfit.
"Guys? This one is a civilian, there could be survivors in there." Rick nodded and we got the group back together. Alice came to me and hugged me tightly. I stiffened and waited until she let go to relax.
"I'm so glad you're okay! That was really cool, you have to teach me sometime to use that!" Her voice was preppy and happy, too much for me to like. I could see Lori smile at the girl, sadness in her eyes. I couldn't see how any of them couldn't see something lurking beneath that innocent act she's putting on. Maybe it was just my imagination, maybe i was really going insane.
"Are you okay?" Carl asked me, looking over my arms and legs for any bites. I rolled my eyes at him and crossed my arms. He raised his hands up in surrender and smirked at me.
"I know how to take care of myself." I said sternly, feeling the corners of my mouth twitch. I kept my frown on and struggled not to smile. I saw Lori watching us in the corner of my eye, her smile widened and a knowing look crossed her face. I turned away from Carl and walked over to Rick.
