"The pain doesn't go away. You just make room for it."

Chapter Two

~Angel's POV~

We walked for I don't know how long.

Daryl stayed behind the group and kept an eye out, like a protector. I couldn't believe I just agreed to go with them, they were strangers. I didn't know who these people were, where we were going, or if I was just being tricked. As I thought of every worst outcome, we walked down a deserted road to a rundown motel. The sign was barely lit and flickered a neon light onto the street.
There were multiple cars and trucks lining the road as a blockage to the dead outside of it. I heard voices filtering through the wooden boards sloppily nailed onto the chain fence, even laughter.
I can't remember how long it's been since I've laughed. These days, there aren't many things to laugh at. It sounded young, almost like a child. Rick lead the way and climbed over the vehicles. I stopped once I heard the click of a gun and saw a scope zeroed on me. I glared at the sniper and raised my bow, causing more guns to go off. Rick held his hand up and caught the attention of all the other people who froze to watch.

"It's okay! She's with us, she helped us from a horde!"

The sniper hesitated before lowering the rifle down and meeting us. That person had a sniper, how protected were they? Several more people met us at the wooden gate and opened it for us. There were more people than I thought. They eyed me warily as I passed by, their eyes trialing down to my weapons.
I walked past them until I was in the middle of the lot. The area was like a big box, every corner blocked off and every fence layered with planks and sheets of metal. There was an RV laying still off to the side, a light on inside of it. The people stared at me as Rick and Lori stood beside me and smiled.

"It's okay, she is not the bad guy. Her name is Angel and she saved us back there. If she wouldn't have been there, we would not have made it back."

I didn't need their gratitude. I just wanted to get away from this place, this state, as far as I could. Rick said to make myself at home and walked off to talk to the others. I saw three people walk up to me, one guy holding out his hand. He had on a blue cap and a short cropped black hair. He smiled shyly at me, his arm around a girl.

"Hi, my name is Glenn and this is Maggie."

We all shook hands and awkwardly started a conversation. The girl, Maggie, had short and curly hair that brushed against her neck. She looked small but I had a feeling she could hold her ground. They both walked away and a little girl was left standing there. She had bright blonde hair that was in pigtails and freckles covering her face.
She had on a frilly pink skirt that was ripped in several places and purple leggings underneath. Her blue jacket seemed snug on her and their were multiple blood stains. She had a green backpack latched onto her and in her hand was a teddy bear. Her blue eyes seemed to sparkle and she was smiling.

"My name is Charlie! This is Buttons and I am this many."

She held four fingers up and grinned at me. I tried to smile back at her, but it wavered. I shifted my weight nervously.

"My name's Angel. I'm 19."

She nodded and hugged her bear tighter against her. I looked around and tried to match anyone that could be her parents. I couldn't find anyone and looked back down at her.

"Where are your parents, Charlie?" I asked her.

"My parents aren't here. I don't have any idea where they are, but I do know they are coming back for me. I was at my papa and wawa's house. They told me to run away, so I did. I hope they are okay. My parents are coming back for me, I know they are."
