we need to understand
we've got privilege in our skin.
it's in our lives, affects our minds;
we're better poised to win.
it may not be our fault
but it is if we don't see
that we can change things, we can use it
to bring about equality.
our brothers and our sisters
of different colors might they be,
deserve more than we could ever give them
they deserve the same as we.
speak out against injustice
wherever you might see it,
online or out in person
and not just when you see fit.
we have to use our voices
to boost those that won't be heard.
what they're saying, what they're screaming
these are important words.
but we must also know when to stop,
know when listening is best.
know when to pass the microphone,
to sit down and just be guests.
sometimes we will not listen
when race gets in the way,
so pass along the message
but remember it's they who have the say.
black people are dying
in the streets and in their homes.
men, women, children murdered
and we're silent just like stones.
killed but our "protectors"
(more like racists with a gun)
and we hail them all as heroes
like they're killing off the scum.
if we're silent we're complicit,
for them it's fucking life or death
society has cast them out
and we don't waste our breath?
we have got to do better
this shit has got to stop
they've been saying this for centuries,
we better step it the fuck up.
we must use the privilege of being white
and, yes, that is a thing.
people of color aren't our ememies
they're human beings like you and me.
