Maeve was on her way to the Cullens. The past four centuries she had been on the run for the Volturi. Carlisle took her in around 1930. Maeve first had to get used to the animal diet but she maintained it as long as she stayed with the Cullens. However, when she left the coven, her willpower wasn't strong enough and she soon feeded off of humans again. But now she was going back to them, and change her diet as long as she is staying with them.
She truly had missed their company, but the Volturi had found out about her staying with the Cullens and she knew they would stop at nothing. Aro really desired her gift as her gift was to give life, but also take it. Maeve however, never had used her gift of taking a life if it wasn't absolutely necessairy.
Maeve soon caught on their scent and ran until she was tackled by a huge grey wolf. The wolf growled at her and Maeve felt her fear rising. "I promise I mean no harm. I am only here to visit the Cullens." Maeve said looking into the wolf's chocolate eyes. Soon more footsteps could be heard and more wolves and the Cullens surrounded her. "Paul it is okay. She won't harm us." Carlisle said. The grey wolf looked at Maeve with suspicion before slowly taking a few steps back, his eyes on her the whole time. "Sam wants to know why your eyes are red and if you will adjust to our diet." Edward said. Maeve looked at the wolves. "As long as I am here my diet will only be animals. I respect the treaty and I won't form a threat to the humans that live here." A black wolf nodded his head and looked at Edward. "Sam wants to continue the training." Edward said. "Training? What training?" Maeve asked worried. "A couple months ago our family was forced to kill a vampire who was hunting down Bella, Edwards mate. However this vampire had a mate named Victoria. She is out for revenge and is creating a newborn army." Carlisle explained. Maeve looked at the girl that stood behind Edward. Maeve looked at her up and down and wondered why this Victoria would put so much effort in killing a mere human. "We don't know either. All we know is that Victoria wants me to feel the same way as she does now that she has lost her mate." Edward said, answering Maeve's thoughts. Maeve nodded her head in response. "When will this battle take place?" she asked looking at Alice, knowing she must have seen it. "In three days." Alice responded. Maeve nodded her head and looked at Carlisle. "Need an extra pair of hands? Atleast if our furry friends don't mind." Maeve asked, flashing a gentle smile towards the wolves. A few growls could be heard from the wolves and Maeve held her hands up in surrender, an amused smile playing around her lips. "We appreciate that. Thank you Maeve." Carlisle said, a gentle smile on his face. "Anything for family." Maeve responded and returned the smile.

After the training the wolves went back to their land and Maeve and the Cullens went back to their estate. "We left your room the way it was when you left." Esme said with a gentle smile before pulling Maeve in a tight embrace. Maeve glady returned the embrace. "I am so glad you are back home." Esme said. Maeve smiled and if she could have cried, a few tears would have defiantely been shed. "Me too." Maeve responded truthfully. "How long will you be staying?" Rosalie asked with a smile on her face. "Hopefully as long as I can." Maeve answered. "You're always welcome here, Maeve. You are part of our family." Esme said. "Thank you. I really appreciate it." Carlisle walked to her, a small box in his hand. Maeve smiled. "My old crest necklace? Did you really keep it?" she asked as she opened the box to indeed reveal her old necklace with the Cullen crest decorating it. "Ofcourse we keep it. It will always be yours." Carlisle said smiling. Maeve smiled and clasped the necklace around her neck, feeling as the cold metal of the necklace matched the coldness of her dead skin.

Two days later and it was the night before the battle. Maeve was out with the rest of the Cullen clan, apart from Edward who was staying with Bella, to go hunt for the battle. Maeve tried to hunt as many mountain lions and grizzly bears as possible because they tasted the tastiest from the animals. Ofcourse Emmett and her would ragulairly have a small wrestle to see who could have the next snack but over all everyone feeded well. It was funny as it always pained Maeve more to kill an innocent animal than a human. She actually refused to kill anything that had cute, big, brown eyes as she literally thought it was sad to kill it. Animals are the innocent ones and often harmed by humans for inhumane reasons. Sure, if an animal was killed for a purpose as food and warmth than yes, it was allowed to kill an animal. But Maeve dispised the thought of animals being killed purely for their fur, or just one body part that would end up hanging on a wall while the poor animal itself would be tortured and eventually died a slow death. No, humans where not the innocent ones in Maeve's eyes. But she was staying with the Cullens and didn't want to bring their treaty with the pack in any danger, so hunting animals was all she could do. But it was alright. As the Cullens where the only real family Maeve had ever had. And she would protect them, just like they had always protected her. It is what a family does.
