The Cullens and Meave where standing in the meadow, ready to attack the newborns. Their footsteps could be heard miles from here and Maeve was ready to fight, but was sure that if her heart could still beat, it would be pounding right now from adreneline. As soon as the newborns reached the meadow, the Cullans attacked. And as a surprise, the wolf pack emerged from the woods and jumped upond many newborns. Maeve ripped the head off of a newborn man while kicking another one towards Emmett whom ripped the newborn's head off. Emmett smiled at her and Maeve returned the smile before joining the battle again.

Yet she soon found herself stuck between two vampires. Maeve glared and grabbed both their hands, using her gift to drain their life away and let them crumble to dust. Maeve shook off the feeling she had for using her gift for killing and continued fighting the newborn army. A newborn tried to jump ontop of Maeve but Paul caught him midair and bit his head off. Maeve nodded her head towards Paul and he returned it.
Soon enough a huge fire was going on as the remainings of the newborn army burned to ashes. Carlisle and Esme had spared one newborn's life because she surrendered herself. Alice had a vision of the Volturi approaching soon. Edward made his way towards the meadow with Bella following close behind. "How long?" He asked. "A few minutes, maybe ten." Alice responded. Maeve felt her nerves coming back. If the Volturi was coming here she had to hide and make sure Demetri wouldn't catch her scent. "The pack needs to leave. The Volturi won't honor a truce with the werewolves." Carlisle spoke. "I'll hide too. If they know I am here they will infor Aro and come after you." Maeve spoke. At that same time, a newborn emerged from the trees and Leah attacked it. Jacob saw she wasn't going to win the fight and fought the vampire off, leaving him with crushed ribs. Carlisle examined him and told the pack he would be there as soon as he can. While the werewolves, now all in human form, lifted Jacob up Maeve had an idea. "I know it is against the treaty, but can I stay on your land until Carlisle comes over? I promise to behave. It's just that the Volturi is after me and won't stop until they have what they want. And with your scent, it would cover up my tracks. I beg of you." Maeve pleaded, fear rising higher by the minute. Sam doubted it for a while. "It will prevent a possible war." Carlisle said to Sam. Sam nodded his head. "Very well, but don't cross the line leech." Sam said as they carried Jacob towards their land. Maeve nodded her head and quietly followed behind.

Maeve sat outside Jacob's house while the other brought him inside, waiting for Carlisle to arrive. Maeve was growing a single rose out of the ground when Paul sat next to her. "So, why are the royal leeches after you huh?" he asked, not directly looking at her. Maeve sighed. "Because of my gift. With my gift I can create life, but also take one. The Volturi wants my gift so they can abuse it, to increase their power even further." Maeve explained. "How eh, how long have you been running from them?" he asked as he kicked a rock away. "For over four centuries." Maeve answered looking down at her hands. "That must suck." Paul stated. Maeve chuckled at his response. "Yeah it it. They have killed many vampires and humans whom have helped me hide from them. They even killed my first clan and took my sister Heidi with them. She says that she is happy with the Volturi, but I believe that she only says that because of Chelsea, a vampire who can make you loyal to anyone. She has all of the guard loyal to Aro, the leader of the Volturi." Maeve explained. "Man, they sound horrible. I actually feel bad for you. Can't believe I am feeling sorry for a leech, but I do." Paul said. Maeve laughed at his comment, recieving a small smile from Paul. "And I never thought I would get the pity of a mutt." Maeve responded, sending a wink towards Paul. Paul simply chuckled but was silence the moment Carlisle arrived.

After an hour, Jacob's screams finally died down. Carlisle walked out of the house, informing Billy that Jacob will be alright. Billy held out his hand for Carlisle to grab and thanked him. Carlisle nodded his head and gave Billy a gentle smile before walking to his car. Maeve followed Carlisle. "Did they pick up my scent?" Maeve asked worried. "No, I don't think so. I couldn't smell you at all. The wolves covered your scent perfectly." Carlisle said. Maeve breathed out and felt her worry slip from her shoulders. "Thank god. I don't want to bring you into any uneccesairy danger." Maeve said as she got into Carlisle's car. "You won't. I promise." Carlise said as he also got into the car and waited for Bella to be ready to go back home.
