I stared wide-eyed at my sister. "How did this happen?" I asked myself. I rushed into the bathroom and got a wet washcloth. After setting that on Juli's forehead, I re-positioned her so she could be more comfortable.
I started to pace and panic. "How?! Juli's never been sick before! I don't know what to do!" I sat on Bianca's bed and put my head in my hands.
I heard a door click open and footsteps. "I hope you don't mind that I invited Alfred and Arthur-" Bianca stopped talking. A door slam, things being thrown to the ground, running footsteps. "Maria! Are you okay?!"
"You okay, dudette?!"
"Juli has a fever, I'm afraid."
"What?!"
"I knew that already," I said, looking up at them all. Arthur stood next to Juli, Alfred stood to my left while Bianca sat to my right.
I probably looked like a mess. I was shaking and sweaty, I looked like I would burst into tears at any second. I myself felt dizzy and that I might puke. I could feel my heart racing.
I chuckled. "It's all a dream..." I whispered.
"Come again?" Arthur asked.
"It's all a dream!" I nearly yelled, "I'm going to wake up any minute now! I'll wake up next to Juli, I'll go to school with Bianca, I'll come back to my room and Juli will-!!"
Smack!
I stared blankly. My face stung greatly.
"Ameri-!"
"Shh!"
I looked up at Alfred. He had a determined but angry look on his face. "You can't feel pain in dreams, right?" he asked me.
I felt myself tear up. "It's not real!!" I yelled.
"I'm afraid it is," Arthur said while walking to me.
"I won't accept i-" Arthur put his hands on my shoulders.
"Take a deep breath." I was hesitant, but I did as told. "Hold it." I did. "Now, breath out." I did. "Do it all again."
I nodded. Breath in, hold it, breath out.
"Are you better now?" Arthur asked me. I nodded sadly. "Good."
I stared at my feet. My face still stung like fire, but at least I was calmer now. "How often do personifications get ill?" Bianca asked.
"Not often at all," Alfred answered, "Usually it only means there is an economical problem with whatever place of who is sick. Usually."
"But, we don't know what Julian is!" I reminded him.
"If she is sick because of that reason, then we have a shortcut to finding out who she is!" He pulled a laptop out of his bag and sat on the bed next to me. "We just have to look on the news!" He searched 'countries with economic problems October 2013' in Google and hit enter.
"America, you idiot, there's always a lot of problems going on in the world. There's no way we could rule out places until we have one left," Arthur told him.
"Oh, yeah." He closed his laptop.
Arthur turned to Bianca and me. "Is there anything specific that either of you remember happening to Julian before she fell ill?"
I thought hard. "All I can remember is that, at Alfred's party, she told me she was tired at around... ten pm, but that's normal because she usually goes to bed at around eight." I gasped. "Is it possible that if something happened to me, it would affect her?"
Alfred nodded. "I guess it could be. If I were to get hurt, some of the states would feel it and vice versa."
"Did something happen to you?" Arthur asked.
"Something did, but I can't remember what for the life of me!" I said while lightly banging a fist against my head.
"I bet I could see what happened!" Alfred said suddenly.
"And how would we do that?" Bianca asked skeptically.
"We view the footage of the security cameras at my house!" He opened his laptop again. "I always have the footage saved for if something were to happen like this, but mostly to just see what the people who can't hold their liquor do!" He laughed.
"Shut up, you git! That was one time!" Arthur yelled.
I shushed them both and pointed at a stirring Juli. They apologized.
Alfred found the footage of the party and played the video. I remembered what happened between me and Ethan. Just the thought of those three seeing that made me blush a little. "Do the cameras record the audio, too?" I asked.
"Yep! Pretty cool, huh?" Alfred said.
"Yeah!" I exclaimed, but I was really mentally cursing myself.
"So, if Juli said she was tired at around ten pm, then I have to go back some. Where were you at 9:30?"
"I was... chatting with Antonio, Lovino, Feli, and Bianca then. That was after what happened, I'm sure."
"'Kay." He rewinded to nine pm after telling him I was on the balcony. The video showed me in front of Ethan.
"... thank you." I chuckled. "Uugh... my head hurts."
"You know what that might be?" Ethan asked. "Dehydration." I knew he was smirking, even if his back was to the camera.
"Shut uuup," I moaned. He laughed and I sat in one of the chairs on the balcony. "Besides, you can't cry so much you get a headache from dehydration."
"Whatever. I'm gonna go get us some water." He walked into the house.
I sighed and leaned my head back, slowly drifting off to sleep.
A little while later, someone completely dressed in black from head to toe, crawling behind the chair where I sat.
They pushed the plunger of the syringe against me. I heard myself yelp and looked at my left thigh. They pulled back the syringe and stood up and looked at my face, my eyes closed. They jumped onto the fence of the balcony and jumped down.
Alfred stopped the video and stared, as did Arthur and Bianca. "Holy-"
"Language!" I interrupted.
"She's asleep!" He said.
I shook my head. "That doesn't matter!"
