The dawn had went, another day was here. Once again it greeted me with sunshine, colors, and happiness. Yet I wasn't happy, or relieved and neither was I enjoying my moments. The ray patted my cheek, its touch was warm and encouraging. Enjoy your day, it said. It couldn't. I made my way through the corridors, the same one from last night.
The weapon....I found it.
I think I found it. It was there, behind that bloody locked door. How could I forget? Yesterday was disastrous. Xanthus practically discovered me sticking my nose where I wasn't supposed to be. In short, I might've signed my death papers.
Breathe, Alexious. Just calm your nerves. It all will be fine, It is not the end.
The Princess abruptly walked out of the door of her chamber. Her eyes caught me instantly, a soft smile surfaced. "Hey," She examined my appearance, seemingly liking what she saw. "—Morning, guardian Lexis."
"M--Morning," I stuttered, as if my tongue was as stupid as my expression. I wasn't used to this.
Her dress gripped her figure. Everytime she moved, it reminded of spring river. She wore her hair long, brushed until curved and settled on her shoulder. Then I realized...I've been staring at her figure for a while. I quickl averted my eyes.
I couldn't afford more trouble after last night. It would be ashame if she'd send me to the dungeon due to inappropriate staring. I might as well dagger myself right then. I rolled my eyes at that last thought.
Alexious, stop being such as a pain.
"How is the wound?" She asked, as she run her fingers through her hair. She looked at me with a friendly tone to her brown gems. That was new.
"It was nothing. Bare a cult." I brushed it off. I stretched the torso which wound was sewn the day before. I was trying to be impressive, manly, and the indestructible Alexious. My arrogance, however, was ill-placed. My wound stung. Badly. I tried to hold my expression, keeping my pain hidden. I didn't think I look convincing.
"Ah, how delightful. Although, 'bare a cut' usually is not followed by one's unconsciousness." She held her smile. Clearly, she didn't believe the 'Alexious has no pain' charade.
"I...." I sighed, smiling in defeat. "I do not have an explanation for that." She was being friendly, which I found interesting. Why?
Oh, no! Has she discover that I am a prince?
I tilted my head, hiding my horrified expression. My breaths quickened, heart pounding, and started sweating. She was acting.... she was going to lead me to the dungeon! Then I'd be captured, then boom! I'd be executed--
Silence! What is the matter with you? It is impossible. Keep your head rational. Don't burden yourself with foolish thoughts.
"Tell me, Lexis. How is life beyond these walls?" Sapphira asked with a dreamy tone as if she was imagining exploring the world. We passed the entrance to her garden and turned left, heading down the stairs.
Life beyond these walls? What should I tell her? Which life? Life beyond these walls was not pretty, is what I wanted to say to her. But I couldn't, I couldn't ruin that look she had in her eyes, hope.
"And?" she paused, looking impatient. She was, what was the word? Not demanding but truth-seeking? That was my best bet on her personality. She wouldn't urge the truth, I suppose, but she didn't liked being lied to either.
"My life before was not...painless. Spartans are sent to the barracks in our seventh year. We are sent to train, to be warriors." I began, sharing a bit of truth. It was always to easy to talk about my early days. Sometimes, too easy. I wanted to share my history with her.
